We are on vacation and my parents are taking care of Max. Dad just called and Max was 57 this morning. Now i am super nervous! I told him to feed Max canned food and retest in 15 min. My Mom had to take my grandmother to a doctor's appt and is not home to help him. He had an accident about two weeks ago and he can barely move right now, so he can't test Max by himself. My Mom is a nervous wreck these days and doesn't do well under pressure. I wish I could explain it but i guess they are just getting old. It is a five hr trip to get Max, but should we do it? Should they take him to the vet? He is eating and showing no symptoms that Dad can tell.

Re: Max 57 this morning...

Do you have some higher carb food at your home? even some plain vanilla ice cream? Or plain yogurt. Make sure it is plain no flavor or fruit. Make sure it isn't sugar free. some sugar free food has sugar alcohol in it.
Bless your parents for taking care of Max while your on vacation.

Re: Max 57 this morning...

If there isn't any higher carb food, dry may help. It takes longer to pull the numbers up and then lasts longer.

Wondering if it was sure a good reading? A 57 at amps would mean he was super low overnight and that the insulin lasted an amazing time. Maybe they should take another reading.

Re: Max 57 this morning...

At the retest it was 87, then back up to 110 at 1:00. They have fed him dry food and canned food, as much as he will eat. I don't understand why his bgl went so low. He is only getting .4u after he was testing in the higher 300s/lower 400s with .3u. Just to be sure, .4u is the 3rd mark on a u100 syringe, right (the 1st mark being 0)?

Re: Max 57 this morning...

.4u u40 = 1u u100. If you only have full unit marks, it's the second. If you have.half-unit marks, it's the third.

Re: Max 57 this morning...

Okay, we have 1/2 unit markings so we are correct with going to the third line if the first line is zero. We got a 278 at 6:30, so do we shoot a lower dose or skip?

Normally you would reduce because of the low number this am. So half that? Or skip if they are worried. Always better to be running high than low.

It was .4u that i gave this morning. .3u numbers were 300-430 range. I'll get them to give .2u tomorrow, unless he is still too low. That is the 2nd mark on u100 .5 mark syringes, right?
