Hello I know I am jumping the gun but how or what is the best way to manage cat stress during the 4th of july? With all the fireworks going off, gun fire ect I know stress will drive his numbers up but how can I combat or prep for the event?

Now my cat is a little bizarre, or thinks he's human, since he actively seeks out a windowsill with a good view of fireworks so that he can enjoy watching them.
However a good friend has a cat who is absolutely terrified and who went missing one year due to hiding.
Nowadays she holds onto a cardboard box for the occasion. She keeps it in the room they'll be in - usually the lounge, behind a sofa. She then covers the box in layers of duvets and blankets - quite a considerable amount of them - and leaves an entrance. She aptly calls it the cat cave. She sprays a bit of feliway pheromone spray inside and leaves a few treats and a bowl of water in there, with litter tray just outside. He stays there the whole night, perfectly happy and safe in the knowledge his humans are near by.

My 2 do that as well - they have done since they were kittens. And I've no idea why - they hate other loud noises, they hate thunderstorms...but a good fireworks display is one of their favorite things!!

Though for kitties that are scared, I think definitely somewhere they think of as safe that they can get to easily is a good idea. And feliway really can help. Someone also suggested Rescue Remedy to me today for helping with stress in cats so that might also be worth a try.

ok thanks I will look into getting both of them with the way his sugars are behaving last thing he needs is to get scared to death.
