Mugsy was going to be starting his Lantus today and I was supposed to be doing his first curve testing but, yesterday afternoon around 6:30 (pm) he came home all torn up with tufts of fur sticking up like he was a pincushion, a large wound open on one temple, and hurting from the shoulders forward to the point that I feared for a new break in his bad leg. He slept until this morning and finally ate something so, I decided to forego the Lantus until we could touch him and just use the Vetsulin and look for damage. His face and head are swollen and he hurts badly in the front quarters but, I can't find any permanent damage or he would be at the vet already. thank goodness I keep his shots up-to-date. Due to his condition, testing is out of the question so, I'll stick to Vetsulin he's better or the Vetsulin runs out. I'll keep updating and the spreadsheet will show what happens. He's one grumpy fellow right now! ohmygod_smile

Uh oh! I'm glad he's basically okay! And I think you're right, making the switch now could be really hard on him. I wish him a speedy recovery!

Awww Poor Mugsy...I hope the other guy looks and feels worse. Sending healing vibes and prayers for a quick recovery.

Poor boy !

I disagree though about the not switching...I understand not testing him right now, but if I were giving insulin to Squeak and unable to test, I'd much rather he be on a low dose of lantus than on vetsulin!

I also think I would be seeing a vet. since face is swollen, there is always the chance of an infection setting in. if it is bites ect from the mouth, cats have a lot of bacteria there

I agree with Dian- if he is in that much pain and is already swollen he really needs to see a vet. Fight wounds can become very serious very quickly! I lost one of my favorite outdoor kitties to fight wounds, and that was WITH veterinary treatment. He had a serious head wound and we were unable to keep the infection in check. Please get Mugsy checked out by a professional...

I'm sorry to hear that Mugsy was in a little tussle yesterday. I do believe a vet visit is warrented!

Praying for poor Mugsy. When I first met Sweet Max, he had many battle wounds & scars. But getting him neutered and keeping him inside mellowed him out. And I'm surprised how many of the scars are no longer visible.

Feel better Mugsy.

Hugs and Healing,

Cat, Sweet Max, and gang

Don't worry folks - I know the danger in cat inflicted injuries. We went to the vet at 4pm and he checked him over then irrigated the head wound and gave him antibiotics. I am relieved his leg is okay and mostly he's just very sore. Now he really has something to grumble about and he sure is doing that. I had to irrigate the wound again last night and he's on antibiotics for a few days. I'm keeping a close eye on the wound (I have vaseline on it right now in case it needs to drain more) and I'm sticking to the Vetsulin until it runs out (which will be in a day or two, I expect) to give him time to heal more. He's starting to eat and drink some of which I'm glad. He also wants back out which is a no-no.
The cats around here are mostly my one neighbor's (she has 12 cats & 12 dogs) and although mostly Tom's - run don't fight. He picked on the one small, scruffy, feral Tom that is willing to fight. I don't even know if he's wild or someone's farm cat but, I doubt he's even had rabies shots. I think Mugsy was taking out his aggravation with all of the testing and shots on whomever he found that was his size (plus he dislikes anyone invading his turf). Scruffy was handy, unfortunately. Mugs doesn't usually bother with him and visa-versa.
Thanks for your good wishes, etc. We appreciate them.
