I know the general rule is no food two hours prior to AMPS and PMPS. Does that apply to all food regardless of type, carb percentage, and so on?

If I’m feeding a strictly low-carb wet food, is there any leeway with that time?

I feel like a big meanie when my cat is looking for food. Especially when the two hour no food period has just begun. How huge of a deal would it be if it had only been an hour and a half since eating, for example?

You need to not feed for the 2 hours before the AMPS AND THE PMPS.
If you are concerned, give him a snack at +10, that should be enough for him until the preshot meal.
And yes it applies to all food.
If you give him food within the 2 hours we say not to feed, the preshot BG will be artificially raised by the food and not give you a true reading.

You might want to plan on giving him a late afternoon snack like at +9 so you don't get the "starving kitty" eyes.

I could feed China right up until shot time but that's because I had done so much testing that I totally understood how she reacted to food and insulin. "Know Thy Cat" is our motto.

You need to understand when Red's onset is, when he usually nadir's, what kind of duration does he get....the only way to do this is through testing, time and lots of reading until you fully understand Red and how he's responding to treatment.
