Hello all,

Does it make much of a difference on who I go to for an ultrasound, I have 2 choices:

1) Expensive IM vet: has ultrasound in his office and familiar with acromegaly. More $, further trip.

2) My local vet: No acro experience, traveling ultrasound unit & administrator comes in to do the ultrasound.

Will more experienced eyes make a difference in possibly finding something?

Thanks!
Paul

Having used a traveling ultrasound vetand an experienced radiologist when Max was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis with totally different results, I would on.t use the most qualified. In my case it saved Max from unnecessary exploratory surgery. Who does the ultrasound makes all the difference.

Ditto. I did both and the IM report was much more detailed.
I was in the room for both, as I asked to be, so I could see what they saw.

The darkness of the room and the view can make you faint ( they told me so they kept a chair nearby in case)

I am ultrasound tech, with people, not animals but I can tell you that ultrasound is very operator dependent, much more so than any other type of imaging. If you are able I would reccomend using someone who has experience with what they are looking at/looking for. I know its probably not the answer you were hoping for but the tech's level of experience could most definitely affect the results of this type of exam.
