So I thought U100 syringes were supposed to make 0.5 dose increments easier to see? I don't understand how it's easier after looking at the two side by side. Can anyone explain ?

Carole, what kind of insulin are you using?

If it's U40, you would need to multiply the dose by 2.5 to draw an equivalent dose in the U100 syringe on the right - see my spreadsheet - there is a sheet there with the conversions.

EDITED TO ADD: Sorry, I see in your sig you're using ProZinc.

Here are the conversions:

If Buddy's dose of ProZinc (provided it's U40 insulin) is, say 2 units, you would need to draw to the 5.0 unit line on the U100 syringe.

I was using Caninsulin and it really is easier to make fine adjustments.

Hope this helps.

Basically, on a U-100 syringe, each 0.5 unit tick mark measures 0.2 units of U-40 insulin.
That's because
U-100 has 100 units per mL
U-40 has 40 units per mL, so it is 40% or 0.4 of the concentration of U-100.
Multiply 0.4 times the tick mark and you get what the dose of u-40 is.
0.4 * 0.5 = 0.2 units of U-40
0.4 * 1.0 = 0.4 units of U-40
0.4 * 1.5 = 0.6 units of U-40
0.4 * 2.0 = 0.8 units of U-40
0.4 * 2.5 = 1.0 units of U-40

Yes I am using u40 ProZinc. Giving 1.5 was hard to see. I saw others talk about using a u100 but 3.8 on the Orange is much harder to me to see than the Red and halfway between 1and 2. So I don't understand why others talked about the U100

If the U100 syringe is the one on the right, that's not the syringe to use

It looks like that one holds up to 100 units....the ones we use only hold a maximum of 30 units so the lines are a little further apart.

The U100 syringes we use are the 3/10mL

Carole, I have no experience with dosing or anything of that nature - perhaps someone could chime in on whether you could move to a 3.5 dose on a U100 syringe instead of 3.8?

Now that makes sense that I bought the wrong ones !!!!!

Yes....on the syringe on the right, each tick is 1 whole unit....that's why it's so hard to measure in tenths of a unit...between each "tick" would have to fit a lot more "ticks" and there just isn't room

I ran across the same problem not long ago with another sugarcat mom....she had been using the wrong syringes and didn't know

She'd been giving 4 units instead of 2!!
