A friend donated all of his cats supplies to us after the cat passed.

We are almost out of U-100 syringes and just realized the syringes that were donated are U-40.

It looks like the U-40 syringes are wider than U-100. Should we not use the U-40 syringes? He gets 3U. My husband seems to think it will be fine. Just wanted to know what everyone else thinks.

Sorry if this is in a thread and I missed it! Thanks in advance!

There is a conversion chart somewhere on the board.

3u with U100
Is not the same quantity of insulin
3u with U40

Here is conversion chart link. It is very important that you double check your conversions using the U40 syringes or you could easily overdose your kitty. If it were me, I would donate the U40 syringes to someone else using ProZinc insulin and use the U100's so that you can dose more exactly. I have only ever seen kitties on ProZinc (U40 syringes ) converting to U100's for micro dosing not the other way around.

Thank you!!

I was in a panic as we are going out of town on Saturday. My husband was able to get the u-100 syringes on the fly but they are 100 unit and I believe measure by 2units. Finding this difficult as he gets 3U but I think we will advise the housesitter to give him 2U until we can get the correct syringes when we get home on Tuesday.

Thanks!
