For those of you that purchase the u-100 syringes where do you get them from? I am in the U.S. Will I need a prescription from the vet? I am beyond frustrated and only have the u-40 syringes currently. I just printed the ISFM article and am taking it to my vet for a little light reading. I can't get his readings down below the high 300's. I have already switched food weeks ago to Dr. Lisa's homemade diet. What am I doing so wrong?

Your profile says Jacksonville. Is that Florida? If so, according to a website that says state by state what insulin and syringe laws are, it says some counties require a prescription but most do not. The cheapest place to get them is probably Walmart. I had sticker shock when I got some at CVS last night as they were 3x the price of Walmart!

I wouldn't necessarily say you are doing anything wrong, some kitties take a while to regulate. I'm going on 4 and a half months with Bud and he's still not regulated. With the U100 syringes you'll be able to fine tune doses as you might have skipped over Spikes optimal dose by increasing in whole units. You might want to post in the ProZinc forum for dosing advice as there are some wonderful ladies over there who might have better insight than I do. And maybe ultimately Spike would do better on a different insulin. I wouldn't give up on ProZinc just yet, but it might be something to consider down the road.

I wouldn't change his insulin again just yet as we just changed from vetsulin last week. Spike has been pretty sick the past 2 weekends. I am hoping for a reprieve this weekend. We are in a predicament as our trip last weekend to the emergency vet found a large lump on his right side. Under his neck. His vet will not biopsy until we get his numbers regulated.

Looking at your spreadsheet, I think you might be having a problem with duration.
The solution to that can be dosing every 8 hours (TID) or switching to a depot insulin such as Levemir or Lantus.

Wal-Mart had them and for under $13much better than the price I paid for the u-40 from the vet

CVS was $42. Yikes!! But in Illinios you can only get 20 syringes at a time without a prescription which it isn't always convenient to hit Walmart every 10 days. Walmart wouldn't give me U100s with a U40 prescription but CVS would. Well now I can transfer the script to Walmart since CVS wrote it for U100s. Lol whatever works! I never bought the U40s so I don't know how much those are here.

I didnt have to ask for it either! I told her I had a diabetic kitty and she just knew. She told me she had a diabetic cat up until last year when he passed away due to other health concerns. He lived to be 18. She said she thought she was the only one until she found this online community and stated she has now seen a lot of people come in and buy syringes and other medications for their pets. She was awesome and helped direct me to this site! Great customer service!
