I was so concerned about Jester's first AMPS of 528, I decided to try again.
Same ear within about one minute the reading was 403.
Thoughts?
I use the OneTouch and that's the highest rated human meter on Consumer Reports. I don't know how much the brand of test strips matter overall with the number variance.I get it with the AlphaTrak, in the higher numbers especially. It is the reason I do not like to use those. I do not get that with my Accuchek, it is always true to itself within a few points (the allowed 20% variance should be from OTHER meters not from itself, they should be consistent in their own testing). On one of the first days with are new foster I got a 423 so I retested and got a 316. Because of the big variance I retested and got a 360. In the middle but still 3 wide ranging numbers so I switched over to one of my Accuchek meters.
When you are that high the variance doesn't mean that much, you reaction to both numbers will be the same - too high.
Wow! I didn't realize that 20% could make this kind of difference. It's a bit of a relief. I used the lower number on the spreadsheet and sort of felt like I was cheating....Totally normal....all meters are allowed a 20% variance, so even if you're using the same meter on the same drop of blood at the same time you can get different numbers.
528 could be as low as 422
403 could be as high as 484
I see it a lot with me this morning I took a blood glucose of 151 but one minute later it was 134 don't know why it does thatI am curious, however, if others have ever experienced readings of this kind?
I'm currently using generic test strips. I did do some research, including speaking with my diabetic niece, before buying them.
Another member of this board does use the same strips. I tagged her and replied to her post to ask about her experiences with the strips, but she never responded.
tbh, I'm thinking of doing tomorrow's AMPS with both the OEM (I still have a quantity of them) strips and the generics just to see how much of a fluke this might have been.
You're just like me! I posted the lower one!I use the OneTouch and that's the highest rated human meter on Consumer Reports. I don't know how much the brand of test strips matter overall with the number variance.

I'm so anal retentive, I already did that. *g*If taking multiple readings at the one time it's not a bad idea to record all of the test results in the Remarks column on the spreadsheet. That way you'll have a record of all data.
