I am having a hard time with Catee giving him his shots. I gave him a fur shot 3 days ago and now I have gave him two in a row. He went to the vet yesterday and it was hard to give him the shot later. I thought it went in but I tested him at +6 and it was 320. I have now switched to the Relion meter and it show AMPS 249. I waited 30 minutes to give the shot and tried in the back leg and it went through the skin I believe. I felt wet fur and it smelled. Sigh, so another fur shot.

I read on another website where a woman gave it to her cat while it was sleeping but not sure to try with him. Catee has started trying to bite me when giving the shot and he now seems to hurt in the scruff of the neck to give it to him there. Now while giving the shot I have my friend saying "just give it" while I try to tent the skin... which doesn't help. He also suggested about giving it in the leg which I did not think was right.

He is drinking so much water and urinating a lot. Worried about these two in a row and worried I will not be able to give him the shots. He is feeling better so now it is harder to give the shots. I've tried the treats but he has seemed to catch on that when treats come out to eat it is shot time.

Sorry to off load but just worried about him. I am going today to get U-100 shots with a thinner needle.

I know that's tough! Have you tried giving the shot while he is eating? I did that a lot and Gypsy barely noticed. Do you always give the shot in the same place? I usually moved around...still in the scruff of the neck but not the same exact spot so scar tissue didn't build up.

You'll get this!

Thanks for posting. Well Catee free feeds so makes it a little harder with feeding him. I have to give him treats to occupy him and he seems to have caught on to that. I have probably been giving the shot in the same place in the scruff, it feels hard there now and when I try to pull up the skin he jumps. So I think it is hurting there.

Hi there,I give my cats shots up on top of my washer/ dryer area,on a towel. The back of the washer helps keep him from moving away from me,and I put his food saucer up there and let him eat away from my other cats.I have terrific control at that level.I always use scruff area, but move around. There is plenty of skin at each side of the scruff as well as upper, mid, and lower scruff. You are supposed to give in to skin and not muscle,so be careful using legs.Good luck!

Any place you can tent the skin works for injecting. I usually alternate in the should regions.

You do the following:
Pick up a fold of the skin.
Push in the needle where the tented skin makes a hollowed area.
Push in the plunger.
Pull out the needle.

What gauge is your insulin syringe? If lower than 30 or 31 gauge, a finer gauge may be less annoying.
