I have some updates for Perlutz. He has had his dental last Wednesday and had 3 teeth extracted. He also had an ultrsound which showed an 8mm tumor on his pancreas. He has been referred for a CT scan or MRI on June 12th and they will then decide if he can have the tumor removed.
He was eating well immediately after his dental and seemed to be feeling just fine until Friday evening when he threw up some blood (wasn't bright red, at least not when I got home) and was a bit under the weather. The vet said it's most likely some blood he swallowed during the dental, wasn't too worried about that but more concerned about the high BG. Perlutz is feeling better now, since Saturday morning he is his usual self, playful and eats well.
On Sunday I opened a new vial of ProZinc and his BGs have gone down considerably, even got some nice blues for nadir today and yesterday. This is the 2nd time we get lower numbers after opening a new vial of insulin, you can see the previous time on 7th April on the SS. Last time it didn't last long, really curious to see how long it lasts this time. Has anyone else experienced this? I should mention that we store the insulin on a shelf in the fridge, not on the door, we never shake it, just gently roll it. Of course, it could be that the new lower numbers are due to the dental as well, but I'm reserved at the moment, as much as I'd like that to be the case.
I should mention that Perlutz has been vomiting hairballs few times and also had diarrhea few times the 2 weeks before his dental and that is unusual for him. Also, a couple of days maybe here and there every few weeks he might not have much of an appetite, he still eats most of his food, just not the usual ravenous appetite. He doesn't look like he'd be in pain. Only sometimes he is quieter and sleeps more but I've always thought it must be his age (12) and the diabetes with the very high numbers. Now after reading about pancreatitis, tumors etc it looks like those might have been symptoms?
Really interested in hearing what are your thoughts about the lower numbers we've seen the past 2 days and how we could keep them!! And if anyone knows anything of pancreatic tumors, please share! We're both trying to keep positive and hope he will have surgery, get it removed and hopefully still live a good quality life for as long as possible, but it is hard sometimes and the unknown is
PS: we've kept the 3 units dose for a very long time as all 3 vets recommended not to increase before the dental. You will hear me say his new vet and his usual vet maybe and I should clarify we still go to the same practice but they've had a new locum vet we've seen the past 3 weeks and he's been amazing. Unfortunately he is leaving in 2 weeks and we're back to his usual vet. The 3rd vet I mentioned is the one who did his dental, she's the dental specialist there I think.
Does anyone else sometimes worry that their vet(s) are on this forum and might read what we're posting and think we're b*tching about them? Cause I just had that thought lol
