That is so awesome!!!!! Congrats! Looks like Tuck was on the juice less than 6 months? Take a bow! So very happy for you. I am sure that someone has said it to you somewhere along the line that you need to continue to give low carb food to Tuck for the rest of his life.

Once he is through the trial successfully, you enter a new phase. Your cat is still diabetic but has now become diet-controlled. Continue feeding low carb food in the manner successful for your kitty. If you decide to change his/her feeding schedule, let your meter be your guide to the best times to feed. Avoid medications with sugar in them and steroid medications unless they are medically essential. Continue testing blood glucose weekly for the first month and then monthly forever. It's a good idea to weigh him/her monthly. Weight should remain stable. If he/she seems "off" or sick, or is showing signs of diabetes (excessive drinking, eating, urinating, weight loss), test his/her blood glucose right away. Keep the teeth and gums clean and healthy; dental issues can bring a cat out of remission. If you see rising blood glucose numbers, it's time for a visit to the vet!

So very happy for you.

Thank you :) He is going to his adopter tomorrow. I just finished writing my novel for her. I forgot to add weight loss as a sign so your post is very timely!!!

What a great achievement! And what a regal pose from the celebrity to christen the event. Congrats.:D

And you are such a hero for fostering animals in need. I could never do it, I would become too attached to let them go.

Tuck and Callie are off :joyful:. I've given their new mom all kinds of information and urged her to join us here.

Tuck was hovering around 200 when I demonstrated how to test. I did the adoption from my parents' home so we wouldn't be distracted by my household herd. 15 minute drive, strange environment so a stress number. I told her not to test until tomorrow so we don't overreact to his stress.

Fingers crossed that his blood sugar returns to normal on its own.:nailbiting:

Oh I'm so happy Tuck found a new beautiful home! I hope it is a stress number indeed! Will his new mom inform you and give you updates?

Oh I hope so too! If she joins us, please let us know what her name is on this forum so we can also follow her journey! That would be so awesome to see how Tuck and Callie are doing:bighug:

Hi Kristen, how are you doing? Does your house feel a little bit empty now Tuck and Callie are gone? I can imagine it does.... How did everything go at there new mom's house after the stressfull car ride? Did the numbers go down after the first day?
And how is Oliver liking the strickt regime now being the only one? haha I think he doesn't like it....:woot: But it's for his own good!
Oh, and did she already joined FDMB?

Aw, thanks for asking Ruby. It is a bit quieter. No lie, the same day they left I was contacted by 3 separate people who needed assistance with placing their abyssinians. :banghead: Breaks don't last long in rescue!

His numbers were back down in the greens the same night she took him home! :D I don't know if she's joined since Tuck was doing so well. Last I knew Callie was still playing shy. Tuck moved right in and claimed her bed. He is the more outgoing of the 2.

Oliver and his brother, Figaro, are glad they left. They were able to move into a bigger bedroom. Oliver is getting used to more tests :p. I wish he'd catch the remission vibe too but at least he sees greens mid-cycle. He's a bit bouncy but Tuck bounced his way right into remission so I'm not worrying about it.

Is Baco still losing weight?

Wow 3 other cats that need help with insulin? Are you going to help them?

So happy Tuck is already being little diva-ish in his new home! Love his attitude. He is damn right he's claiming his bed, he has earned it after his remission;) awww Callie will come around right, it's not nothing to be in a new home with a new mom!

well that's not nice that Oliver and Figaro are glad there cat friends left! Is Figaro also diabetic? I saw the nice greens in Oliver's sheet indeed, how great is that Kristen!

Baco is living on the edge of going under 7kilos. She was for 2 days under 7kilos but ate it on I guess:banghead:. She's now today at 7.02kgs so lets hope next week she will go under that 7kg mark. It does take a long time but well that's the best for kitties right, slow weightloss.. And I pretty much think that Baco has already lost weight after being dx with diabetes. Because she lost a lot of weight back then, and after that she gained it. The vet told me that that isn't fat gaining but muscles. So she looks slimmer but her scale doesn't say so because she gained muscle.. It's okay, she will always be a little bit chubby I guess but i'm not going to push it untill she is 4,5 or 5 kilos you know. I'm happy if she gets to 6kilos that's a nice number for her.
:bighug:

For those of us newbies, can you describe what you observe (numbers) and the process (lowering insulin) when you realize they are going to go OTJ? You are obviously darn good at making it happen!
I might just be lucky :) I will try to write up my thoughts on this tomorrow. The fact that you are here and home testing is a HUGE part of what may lead to your success too.
