My cat Bugsy has been on Lantus insulin for about 1 year. The insulin vials have gotten very expensive and he is on such a small dose I am throwing away 3/4 of the bottle at the end of 4 months. I want to order the solostar pens as it will go further and last longer resulting in less waste. Most of thepharmacies on Pharmacychecker.com no longer ship to the US and the one that does - it snot longer able to get it from Turkey so it is more than I would pay at a local store. There are online pharmacies I can still get it from and there is no generic - I am being guranteed it is the genuine Lantus Solostar pen and it is manufactured by Aventus - which is the manufacturer of this product. I just don't want to do anything harmful ssso has anyone had any experience with these other pharmaices? i.e. Canadian pharmaciesonline.com - the medication is coming from Turkey and the manufacturer does have a plant there. When I spoke to Northwestpharmacy.com - they said their distributor no longer has acces to this drug from Turkey which is why they are getting it from the US. I am sure there was tons of pressure to have Canadian Pharmacies stop shipping this to the US from large drug companies - just trying to sort out what is safe and what is not??? Any help would be great???

Thanks,
Amy

Ask your vet to write a prescription for the Lantus Solostar pens instead of the vial. While the initial cost may be higher than a vial, because they come in 5 individual pens, you should be able to use almost every drop. Ricky's dose is 1 1/2 units twice a day and one package of pens is enough insulin to last almost a year. I have never had a pen become ineffective before I was able to completely use it. There is also a coupon on the Lantus site to bring to cost of each pen to $25. http://www.lantus.com/sign-up/offers.aspx

Thanks for the information - how are you getting the coupon to use for a pet? The prescrption is in the cats name but you have to fill out your own information for the coupon? I did find 5 pens available at costco online for $278 - I would love to be abel to use the coupon - how are you doing it?

I hear some put their cats name ( if it's a human sounding name) and your last name and sometimes age...
so it just looks like your child.

So take a name like Reuben, who is 10. They can't tell it's a cat unless you put down a name like fluffy.

It comes from the manufacturer so it's not related to species but to the prescription and should be honored at any place that sells Lantus. You pay only $25 per pen for up to 6 pens. Some places will even sell you the pens individually (my local Walmart does this), so you can even spread out the cost over a year instead of having to pay it all up front.
