He hides whenever I have sitters come in, so he can't get his shots. They have stayed for hours, no luck. And no local boarding place will give shots (I haven't even gotten to his inhaler yet), so it's always been the Vet, which I really don't like. And this is two weeks, separated from his sister. I looked at the local spreadsheet to find a member around here (Long Hill, NJ in Morris County) but the two listed on the spreadsheet were not on the master member list....I'm really at the end of my rope....any suggestions?

What about getting a very large cat crate or a 4 foot long dog crate and confining him in that, in 1 room (in case he gets out) so the sitter can find him to treat him?

I was thinking along the same lines as BJM.

He will do so much better at home even confined to one room. Even by himself.

Better in a bedroom than small bathroom. Block off access to under the bed. Pillows, cushions from couch, rolled blankets, etc. Or Home depot sells sheets of syrofoam insulation- 4 feet by 8 feet (1 1/2 inch thick) . You could cut strips of it so that you have to bend it to get it to fit. and it springs back tight against the bottom of the bed.

I know the problem of hiding underneath a bed--it is impossible to get a cat out. I will push mine out with a broom but the minute I get over to the that side to get him he runs back under the bed. Over and over again.

If the cat has no where to go the babysitter comes in and finds him easily and gives the shot.

The master bedroom works for me as the kitty litter box can go in the adjoining bathroom.

A room at home with comfy beds, but no where to get under or in to hide is what I would try too. Just taking the bed off the bedframe might be the easiest and cheapest thing to do. We use our workout room for that.

Thank you all, I hadn't thought of a crate -- I actually have a very large one from when he punctured his lung and had to be sequestered --- or if I can figure out the bedroom. This why my parents had pocket doors installed for the kitchen family room area... But I could always count on FDMB people to be helpful! (I just had to rejoin since it been so long since I'd been on) :-)

oooooh oooooh oooooh raising hand here!

I've got the perfect place and the perfect person who can help you. That is however, you will have to come to Edison NJ - http://www.kittyresort.com/

This is my pet sitter Kate. She comes to my home to take care of my girls. However, she does have boarding facilities and I've been there it's nice, clean, doesn't smell. She's great with cats and ready for this part - she had a diabetic (now in remission) so she knows how to give shots and test! and ready for the next great thing - as I have an asmatic cat, guess what she can do too! Yup that's right - she knows how to puff!

Not sure where or how far Long Hill is, but if you want peace of mind, assurance your cat is well cared for and treatments administered.....Kate is your lady.

Tell her I sent you - in our house we call her Miss Kate and she knows us as Hillary, Sydney, Maui and Buster!

I've been using her for almost two years now and my girls love her......and she's reasonably priced too.

Go on give her a call and let me know how it goes!

Wow, thanks Hillary and Maui, Kate's looks like a great alternative if we can't work out the several room containment -- I will definitely check it out. And Maryjoandsmokieh and others, I think that we may have figured out a way to close off the large kitchen/family room/laundry room (where the cat boxes are)/den/powder room area for them -- with lots of couches and great bird/wildlife views (and no beds to hide under). I have to get some gates to test, and see if my previous catsitter is willing to try it again (they get quite traumatized by not being able to take proper care of their charges). So I have some options, thank you!!

I know how you feel. when my pet sitter moved away, I had to find someone else. I searched and interviewed people and nobody was right. I've known about Kate for years, but she was always board only - no house calls. When I saw she started making house calls, I called her and it's been love ever since.

The first time I went away, Kate left me notes telling me who did what and who came to sit with her. After a couple of visits, my shyest one came and sat next and on her lap for 15 minutes! Kate was so excited she couldn't wait to call to let me know.

I knew after her first visit, she was the right person and that visit confirmed my decision. I come home from trips and my girls actually seem disappointed that it's me and not Kate coming through the door.

So, if you do decide that you need an alternative either now or in the future, Kate is a great choice and for your location, her boarding facility will work perfectly for you. The "hotel rooms" are quite large and comfortable looking for a kitty and contain all kinds of amenities.

Most importantly she knows how to administer meds, insulin, inhalers and she is directly across the street from the satellite office of the vet we both use. Oh I forgot to mention we go to the same vet! and the emergency 24 hour places are not far away either.

What I do, is keep the girls medical records next to the carriers and the care credit card, so if she ever does need to use it, it's all within her easy reach.

good luck and hopefully your pet sitter will come through.
