Trouble with switching from Lev to Lantus & back- no switch

I won't get my shipment of Lev in on time- they added a week of transit on me . I will be ordering far sooner from now on! I've checked our craigslist and, unless I want to loose weight (done that) or curl my hair or take pills to have better sex it is pretty much a bust. The warnings say I'm not supposed to place an ad for prescription medicines anyway (but did on the off-chance).

I have been offered a pen of Lantus from a diabetic friend for Sneakers- is there a problem with using the lantus to tide us over until the shipment comes in and I can get her back to lev?

I've heard she might become moody- is that different than sleeping all the time  ?

Thanks.

EDITED***
I was able to find a lev pen so there is no need to try Lantus and then go back.

Thanks all for the advice!

Where did you hear that?

I just switched Chip from Lantus to Levemir and his mood seems much better despite the transition numbers. But it's way too early to tell anything yet.

Normally I don't think we want to be switching back and forth because we may lose momentum. But in Sneakers case it just may work. There will be a transition to watch close, but you know what you are doing. The dose may be somewhat different but you *should* be able to adapt to that as well. Once you get up to speed you should be able to achieve similar numbers with either. Of course every cat (and every acro cat) is different.

What Rand said about the dose:
NB Mean median maximum dose in cats on detemir is about 30% less than for glargine (1.7 U/cat
BID; range 0.5 to 4.0 IU versus 2.5 U/cat BID; range 1.0 to 9.0 IU BID).

Thanks Chip! Most people say cats are better on Lev if lantus causes behavior changes.

I was able to find a lev pen so the change should not have to happen :-D :-D  .

I wonder if that goes beyond just smoothing out the numbers?

A week or so ago I was thinking maybe Chip was depressed or sad, which is kind of different than lethargic or lacking energy. But it's great that he's back to his old self for now. I mean he's really back. :-D

And great you rounded up a Flexpen, that will just keep everything easier. BTW were did you order the box of Flexpens that had the (extra) delay?

Re: Trouble with switching from Lev to Lantus & back- no swi

Sorry Dale

Canada. Someone had posted a link of of the pharmacy they buy them from and had them shipped to the states- I had wondered about buying them from Canada so I looked at all the threads on buying on-line and it wasn't too complicated.

Here I can buy them for $53.15/pen and must buy a 5 pack plus tax- initial price the first time was $278 and change  .
On line from Canada they are $114.99 for the 5 pack plus $10.00 s/h- total.

Mmmm... $278 verses $125. Since I only had half the amount saved up and the rest was going on CC- Canada won. Well, it is shipping from Turkey- that was talked about on the thread and it is the same lev we get here, no problems in that arena. But instead of 10-14 days it would be 16-18 days- that added a full week and when you factor in weekends... it isn't going to get here in time. hopefully by the time I can order again I can afford to get the 3 pack- she's going to need it  .
