Hello i am new here and my 8 year old cat Rocky was diagnosed with diabetes around 2 weeks ago i am having trouble injecting the insulin with a pen .....the problem is when i finish sometimes the needle is bent!! then i worry if the required dose is in my cat but i never do it again even if the pen does not go back to zero ...any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

We recommend not using the pen needles. Instead use the pen like a miniature vial and use a syringe to pull the insulin out. The pen needles will only allow you to dose in whole units and also some the insulin is wasted when priming the pen. Since dose changes should be done in 1/4 to 1/2 units you will need to use the syringe to get an accurate dose.

I agree with Lisa we use syringes to draw out the insulin from a pen
Would you like to tell us about Rocky tap in the blue link
Here is a link helping us to help you link. If you noticed, our members have some basic information about their cat's in their signature. This helps us to not pester you by asking the same questions (your cat's name, insulin type, date of diagnosis, etc.) repeatedly. We also have a link to our spreadsheet in our signature. We are very numbers driven. The spreadsheet is a record of your cat's progress. By linking it in your signature, we can follow along and provide feedback should you need the help.

I am assuming you are giving Lantus insulin. is that correct?
If you are using Lantus, the syringes you need are the U100 3/10 ml 30 or 31 gauge 6 or 8 mm insulin syringe with 1/2 unit markings
You can draw the insulin from the pen you are using. I will post a diagram below to show you.
We can help you a lot more if you set up a spreadsheet and your signature which is in the link Diane posted above. Also in it is a link to the hypo kit. Make sure you have your hypo kit set up.
