Today is two weeks since Trink's surgery. Dave helped me out today by bringing Trinket into the referral hospital for her appointment so I didn't have to take a half day and drive around the state!

I'm told that she puked AND pooped in the car on the way there!!!! (Must be his driving - that's how I feel too  ) She's never done this before so I was pretty surprised. Since I had made a complaint about the flea situation Dave says he was treated extremely well. He says they whisked her off and cleaned her up and her cage and did the staple removal out of the room. They also gave me a $50 gift card for my troubles! I think it must be an Amex one....so that's cool. I spent MEGA bucks-close to 4 grand for this whole thing. To have her come home with fleas was crazy.

So she's healing great. No more collar....but....that collar kept her calm. She needs two more weeks of no playing or rough-housing. We got her a cute pink mesh harness and a leash. She's freaked out by the harness so hopefully that will slow her down for a while.

She's still eating well and very happy. She's my soul cat right now. My goodness, have we done some serious cuddling and loving. I told Dave that "she's mine" and "he better not try to steal her away" (Merlin seems to prefer HIM! :o ) All I've ever wanted is a loving lap cat and my little Trink is just that. Before this injury she was a monkey girl...climbing and swinging from the cat tree. I'm sure she'll be back to that as soon as we'll allow her, but for now she's gotta chill out. Her and Merlin seem to be back to being friends and grooming each other. We still watch them carefully and will probably continue to for a while.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers during this whacko time! I'll post more pictures soon.

Re: Trinket update: she got her staples removed

Yay!!

I hate the waiting for things to be healed or illness to be over.

Re: Trinket update: she got her staples removed

oh yay!!! Trinket, almost all the way better little girl!! Just hang in there a little longer!! Merlin, you continue to be a good big brother, ok?? Thanks for the update traci!

Re: Trinket update: she got her staples removed

This is the most heartwarming news, Traci. I came on here hoping for an update and reading this made me smile. Donna

Re: Trinket update: she got her staples removed

Thanks Donna.

I've been watching them on my cat cam today. She's in her crate and he's on top of the crate on a little pad I put on there. They are both sleeping. I've seen them playing through the bars and him trying to reach in and steal her food. It's very amusing. Sometimes when he lays down on the top of the crate one of his legs will fall through and she'll stand up on her hind legs and swing at it. My only concern is that he is back to being a bit food-aggressive. He will growl at her if she comes close while he's eating. He has done this before but seemed to have gotten over it. It's started again.

Her incision looks really good. She's still got time in the cage, the poor thing. Her x-rays aren't until the 29th...so no rough housing or play until then. It's SO hard to keep a 6 month old kitten from playing.

I'm going to the gym tonight for the first time since Halloween. Thank GOD! I've felt too guilty to go up until now. I don't feel too bad about it now because the longer she stays in that cage, the safer it is for her leg. If I'm not home I won't hear her pathetic cries! I let her out when I get home but the last couple days she's been less cuddly and wants to get down and get into things!

Dave also found another flea yesterday. I haven't seen any for a while. Both cats were treated last weekend so I guess these fleas haven't bitten the cats yet because they are still alive. It's hard to get them all at once because there can be eggs. EEEEEWWWWW. What a freakin' pain in the ass. If they had just treated her in the ER, I wouldn't have this problem!!!!

Re: Trinket update: she got her staples removed

Traci,
So happy to hear about Trinket! :-D Isn't it amazing how well they adjust and how fast they heal? I had a cat whose pelvis was broken (by a dog) and had to be confined while she healed. We did some serious bonding during that time. And when it was all over, you could barely tell anything had happened.
Glad to hear she is getting along with Merlin, too. That is awesome!
I like the cat cam idea....how fun to watch them while you are away. And really, a good idea.
Hope everything continues to go well for Trinket.
Oh, and I feel the same way about my DH's driving.

Thanks for the compliments! She was my soul cat for a few days there...now she wants to get off my lap and do naughty things. This morning she was freaking out so badly :o that I let her out of the cage while I got ready for work. She had the pink thing on which (used to)make her feel restrained...I came out to check on her and she was on the top level of the cat tree! nailbite_smile Back in the crate she went. Her leg is still broken! She can't be doing this stuff. It's so hard because she cries pitifully to me. Thank GOD I can go to work to get away from it. @-)

Oh Traci,

I so do love you pictures of those beautiful kitties. I think it is so cute to see a cat in a harness. Hope Trink gets better real soon and can get out to play.

Trinket is SOOOO cute in that harness! What a beautiful kitty! She is looking great overall.

Harness update:

She's getting used to being in it and being leashed. Last night I had it set up so the retractable leash was locked so that she had room to play but not enough to jump on anything. She was doing well. I went into the bathroom to get ready for bed and I come out and she’s loose…..out of the harness! :o Somehow she got out of it while playing in the tube! It was in the tube and she wasn’t. She ran away from me when I saw her because she KNEW she got free and wasn’t supposed to. She’s starting to show a lot of her old insane playful self. UGH. She’s nuts. I put her back in her cage. Getting the harness on her is really hard!!! I was planning on keeping her in it 24/7 so I wouldn’t have to deal with getting it on her. She squirms and has so much strength. Thank GOD I can go to work so I don't have to hear her crying all damn day wanting to get out. When I'm home she's dramatic. When I'm not there she sleeps or play through the crate with Merlin....I know this because I watch them! ;-)

Re: Trinket update: tell me this girl isn't ADORABLE!!(new p

Traci,
What wonderful healing news! I am wondering where you got the set up for kitty cam? Very interested in this to be able to watch my 3 girls during the day. I know what you mean about dramatic. Lil Sista acted sooo pitful when she had her cast/bandage on her front leg ;-) . And it was not even broken, but she would continue to play as she is only 5 months old and that big old thing would knock everything over in her path!
What a good momma bean you are and what happy happy news for today

Re: Trinket update: tell me this girl isn't ADORABLE!!(new p

How long did she have to have the bandage on? It's really weird but Trink didn't have any kind of bandage after the surgery because the pins and plate holds everything in place. She did have one on before that and she didn't like it AT ALL. Couldn't walk with it...oh, the drama.

The cat cam was a b-day present from my BF. I can't remember where he got it, but I think you can get them wherever computer stuff is sold. It's similar to a web cam but you face it out into the room that they are in most and it hooks into a router which is hooked up to my computer. I had a crappy computer when I first got it so I didn't use it for a while. Then I bought a new computer and the BF hooked it up for me. Thank GOD for men for these types of things.

Her crate is in the living room and so it my computer so I've got the thing on her all day. I haven't seen Merlin visit her today yet - he usually goes on top of it or they play through the bars. The picture is pretty good too.

Re: Trinket update: tell me this girl isn't ADORABLE!!(new p

what sweet pictures! Those two are going to be the best of friends once she is free from her crate sentence :-D Do you ever sing the song, "we are Siamese"? We sing it to mocha all the time, but it would make much more sense if we had two

Re: Trinket update: tell me this girl isn't ADORABLE!!(new p

Hi Devon-

 No singing over here. I spare them that.

I hope they do become BFF's again. They are both a little jumpy at times since the fight. But there are a lot of new things in this little place...the crate, her harness and leash and new routines. We've been though a lot with all this. Luckily Trink seems to be healing and isn't in pain anymore. She's adopting to her leash thank goodness because I can not trust her without it. She'll go up the cat tree again and it's too dangerous.

Re: Trinket update: tell me this girl isn't ADORABLE!!(new p

Oh, trust me, there's a reason I didn't say we sing it good  Yes, a lot going on recently but soon things will get back into their normal routine .. I'm so glad she isn't feeling any pain these days .. Bet she can't wait to be "free" again!

Re: Trinket update: tell me this girl isn't ADORABLE!!(new p

Devon!!!!!

OMG....I got your package yesterday and I am SO happy! I totally forgot that you had asked for my address. It was SUCH a nice gesture...I can't even believe it. The card was adorable too.
For everyone else....Devon sent us (me Trink, Merlin and Dave  ) a cute bucket of toys and catnip as a get well present. I'm going to use the bucket fot my makeup I think. It totally cheered us up. She's got the two catnip pillow log thingies in the cage with her.

The update is that whenever I'm home she's out of her cage leashed. She's used to the leash now and seems to get around fine with it. She and Merlin have been sharing cat beds and have been getting along decently. He bugs her sometimes because he's too aggressive with sniffing and pawing at her so she growls at him a bit. I'm always on guard for another fight. They used to wrestle hard and everything would be fine...it wasn't a death fight. He's grooming her head right now and she's allowing it.

I've started crossing the days off on the calendar. I can't wait until she's healed. Thank GOD it's only a month. I can't imagine doing this without a cage.

Thanks again Devon for your kindness!!!

Re: Trinket update: tell me this girl isn't ADORABLE!!(new p
