So......I ALREADY have an asthmatic cat at home and I JUST adopted Trinket....she came home on Sunday. Dave and I have been playing with her and I've seen her pant several times. I flipped when I saw this (naturally) because Merlin did the same thing when I got him. She is only 4 months old!!!! I told foster mom and she said Trinket never did this at her house and she was there for about 2 months. Foster mom says this may be from stress. I have my doubts but I am praying she's right. If I saw Merlin pant (he doesn't any more) I'd give him a puff of albuterol. She doesn't cough like Merlin does/did.

Part two....
Merlin is on Flovent 125 mcgs in the PM and 250 mcgs in the AM. He still coughs but only when he's in two positions - it happens every time he hangs over the side of his cat tree and almost every time he puts his head in the garbage pail in my bathroom - both of these actions put pressure right on his chest. When he is hanging over the side of the tree he could cough for 30 seconds. It's ridiculous. When I'm there I'll get up and move him sohe'll stop. What should I do? Should I increase his flovent to 250 twice a day?

PS - WHO COULD HAVE TWO ASTHMATIC CATS?????? :o nailbite_smile

Only a very special mommy...

Love and hopeful natural breathing kind of hugs for you all,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

Thanks Hon, you are very kind!

I was reminded today that she did have a URI recently and she's sneezing a bit - maybe that has something to do with it?

She's got her vet appointment soon. If it seems worse I'll bump it up.

URI - Oh that's right! Yes this may be a part of the lingering effects combined with the stress AND change of location. Moving exposed her system to allergens that she wasn't used to....her new home will have things she needs to get used to also.

KITTEN KT used to do it when he got overly excited with the world. I had him checked immediately as my previous cat had asthma. KT's whole checkup and bloodwork showed no problem, no lung rattle, no wheezing, nothing.

She's such a beautiful baby.

Thanks Lyresa, I hope it's something other than asthma.

She's a sweet little girl and she enjoys playing with her ginormous brother! He's HUGE compared to her!!!

Well, Sophie plays so hard sometimes that she pants (chases da bird). Her tongue hangs
out and her sides heave in and out like bellows. She loves to play and won't stop unless
you make her rest.

Could Trinket just be exercising vigorously ?

Yes, that could have something to do with it...
