Well hello again Trey was on another antibiotic for the pass month Doxycycline 0.5ml every 24 hours had his last dose yesterday. All his cold, sneezing, coughing has cleared up .He is loosing a little weight and his BG is up before he went on this stuff it was good ranging 108-162 but every time he goes on meds it goes up....this time to 216-270 so it has been up for most of the month. He will be having blood work today and guess will take it from there. Any advice would be welcomed Just to update Trey is a 15.4 boy he is about 14 he was a stray that came to live with us at about 3 we think .In 2010 he was on insulin for 2 months and with the angels here he was able to come off of it ......now what to do??? Thank you

Hi,
Oh that dreaded day....
It sounds like it's time to get him back on some juice..... and maybe you can get him back to remission again. Paws crossed.....
If his numbers are just in the 200's, you should have a good shot at it.

start recording his bg again so you and everyone here can help you. Even go add what you have so far this month.
What insulin were you on before?

Be sure and post his labs here too.

Hi Kath - waving at you from the other side of the country! :-D

Sorry you've had to stop by for a visit. I hope it's a short time condo rental. Did the vet take a look at Trey's teeth? We've had kitties go back on the juice if they've needed dental work done. As Rhiannon says, post his numbers and blood work and paws crossed we can get him back on track quickly. Since it was a while ago, you might want to start a new spreadsheet. Here are the instructions if you go that way.

Hi Kath!

Was the antibiotic a pill or liquid? If the latter, any chance that it was in a syrup base? In many cases, the AB is so foul tasting that the liquid is a sugar syrup to mask the flavor. As a result, the AB raises BG levels. If course, the infection may also be raising BG numbers. It will be helpful to know if Trey's labs show that the infection has cleared up.

Thank you all for replying so quick I will get a new spreadsheet done and will have a copy of his blood work today hope it will all come together Thanks again Hugs and tons of healing green light to all furry babies! :YMSIGH:

Hi Kath, no advice here that hasn't already been mentioned. Just wanted to say HI! Good to hear from you, and I hope Trey will be back in good numbers soon.

Hi I am not sure what kind of syringe to buy can someone help me ....vet wants to start him very slow thanks to you guys and me being stubborn but drug store only has 50 units I think it is not the ones I had before ...what do you use anyone in Canada Thanks

Hello Kath, I live in Ontario; I buy the insulin and the syringe at Costco. I learned that if you buy it for “yourself”, you don’t need a prescription and no tax on it, if for your pet: you need prescription from the vet and tax on it. The box of solar pen was $104 and the syringe was $34 or something like that. I use the “30G” with 8 mm length needle and ½ ml/cc. I tried different ones, but this one work the best for me.

I'm currently buying syringes from Canadian Superstore or Safeway, as those seem to be the cheapest places near me, although someone said Walmart is cheaper. I like the BD Ultra-Fine II, 30 unit syringes, 8mm needle, 31guage. The box has purple and yellow on it. I also pay around $33-$34 for them.

The best deal on insulin is the 5 pack of Lantus cartridges. Best price for me is Canadian Superstore pharmacy, $98 last time I bought them. I told them it was for my cat, but didn't need a prescription or pay tax.

Thank you both Wendy & Tiger for the info....ok going to work on attaching new spreadsheet wish me luck!!!!

I'm so jealous of you Canadians with your insulin prices!!! Don't know why y'all pay so much more for syringes though. I'll do a swap with you!!!

Hi guys .. I sure hope that it's a real quick visit back here to LL for you guys .. and I agree, those insulin prices are NICE! Have a great day!
