I've read that freeze-dried treats are great for sugar cats, so bought a few flavors at Petco. My sugar baby Mr. Black didn't like them at all, and my other 2 healthy cats didn't either! Can anybody recommend some different types of low carb treats suitable for Mr. Black and the others that they will find tasty enough to eat?

My crew has always turned up thier noses at freeze dried treats, but I decided to try these from petsmart and amazingly they are a huge hit, especially with my sugar kitty

When I asked about diabetic safe treats they also gave me the idea to take small amounts of a wet food and freeze bite size pieces. Haven't tried it yet, but will be doing it soon!

I've had the same problem with my picky eaters eating anything freeze dried. I did go out yesterday and bought your same brand from PetSmart. They are all just so-so about it, but there may be hope if I keep persisting! We'll see. Let me know if freezing the wet food works.

Just a side note--
some of the freeze dried treats are hard/splintery.... we usually get the dogs ones because it is the same and they are less expensive (1 ingredient)
Mine would eat too fast and puke-I started putting them in the vita mix and turning them into fairy dust like consistency and it also releases the smell.
I use the pure bites in our auto feeder for night time snacks-mine only like pure bites chicken.
Orajen is also a popular one here--wild boar is one of the popular ones and mine like the beef as well.. (Orajen is not hard like pure bites)
I don't know how carb sensitive your kitty is but sometime I give 1 or 2 kernels of the waggers 12% carb for a pokey treat (mine is not that carb sensitive)

Another one that is like crack is bonito flakes (if your kitty likes fish)

Stella and Chewys and Natures Variety and Primal all have soft freeze dried food that can be used as a treat.

Fern likes Freeze dried just fine, it does not like him. His treats are either Bonito Flakes (dried tuna) from the Asian Grocery Store or, pre-cooked plain sliced chicken from Trader Joe's (his bean is vegetarian otherwise I'd just grill him up a chicken breast or something)

Bonito Flakes has great reviews! Are there any pet stores that carry this or do you have to only order from their online site?

they probably have them at pet store--I would just call first....
Amazon has them and you can also get from a Asian food store but be sure the flakes aren't too dark as they tend not to like that. I have been told that means the fish was old. Mine like either Citi kitty or cat man do-

I have never found bonito flakes at the pet store but you can get them at your local Asian market if you have one and also Amazon. My cats go nuts over bonito flakes and the freeze dried stuff, it's like crack. I actually caught my kitty in the pantry, he had snuck in while I had my back turned and I closed the door on him. He proceeded to devour an entire container of freeze dried treats and had the evidence all over him lol.

Bama LOVES the Bravo chicken breast. Like gnaw off your fingers and search the surrounding area for more treats love. They are more expensive and only one holistic pet store in my area carries them.

I tried giving her Pure Bites chicken treats which she will usually eat but she sure isn't excited about them. The Pure Bites bag smells kind of gross and plasticky. The Bravo treats have more of a pet food smell.
