Houdini was diagnosed with stomatitus before he was diabetic. The first vet had removed a small mass from inside his mouth, and 2 teeth the mass turned out to not be cancer, but she told me his inflamation would return. She had given him an antibiotic and anti inflammatory injection at his re-check 2 weeks later and then again 2 more weeks later when she told his teeth would have to go, but then the diabeutus kicked in and well here i am. His bg has been awsome ( knock on wood) no shot in 2 days :cat: but he scratched all the fur off a spot on his face, so I looked in his mouth and its definitely inflamed, his appointment is next thursday with his new vet. Old vet said they were not equipped to treat the diabeetus but she had told me it would be a challenge as some of the meds used to treat and control the stomatitus might not go well with the diabeetus. any advise should I move the appointment sooner, I plan on emailing her his spreadsheet (thanksguys) what should i ask his new vet or look out for:bookworm: any advise would be great he seem real happy right now except for the scratching

Here are some Vet Interview Topics you may find helpful in interviewing for a new vet.

Also, there are several Facebook sites for Feline Stomatitis which you may find helpful. Here is one I've joined.

Thanks BJM those are both real good links, I left his new vet a message to call me back tomorrow when she comes in. I wanna be excited because of his good bg numbers I just need him to be healthy and stable cant afford another er visit right now, dont wanna give him the wrong meds and make him worse.

I moved his appointment to this Saturday instead of next week, from what I am reading the vet must remove all traces of tooth, root and connecting tissue, leave anything behind and the inflammation is more likely to reoccur gotta make sure i bring this up with my vet. On the up side I think hes on day 3 no juice :cat: I thank every one here I was so nervous and scared at first, thankfully there is so much good information and support here. If you guys dont mind say a little prayer for 2 other cats I rescued from my work they been at a foster home but she fosters dogs, was meant to be temporary while we waited to purchase our first home but Houdini er vet bills have us starting over they're names are Padre, and Little girl hope I can get them into another temp foster home

So I got back from Houdini's new vet. I tried to prepare all the question I wanted to ask her but I feel like I forgot something, I brought my laptop to show her his spread sheet, my printer was bleeding reds all over and the it didn't seem to make it to her email. She thought it was good that I was keeping a close eye and was in agreement if hes been below 100 all week now doesn't need insulin, but she wanted keep tabs on his sugar for good while. She agreed that hes should not receive the steroid injection as it did more harm than good, but he definitely need a full mouth extraction and to my surprise she said could do it there but recommended me to another vet hospital. She recommended me to California veterinary specialist she said they have a vet dental x-ray machine and they are very good at getting all the teeth and roots out quickly making the need for multiple surgery less likely and reducing anesthesia time on Houdini. The inflammation is seen in his mouth and hes scratching his fur of his face, she wanted to put him in an e-collar so he doesnt give himself a skin infection, I have been cleaning his wound several times a day with hydrogen peroxide and a little pain relieving neosporin she offered me 2 choices of pain meds to keep him comfortable buprinine or tramadol. The buprine was a jell I would apply twice a day to his gums and the tramadol is a pill 1/4 of twice a day. I chose the tramadol but wonder if the buprine would have been a better choice he seem real happy now that his blood sugar steadied hes playing with his toys talking up a storm being a little rascal i dont wanna dope him silly just keep him comfortable till I can get his FME performed she offered me antibiotics in case he gets a skin infection I didnt get those but wondering if should havSe taken them just in case. She told if I needed anything just call and she would get me meds. So did I do okay I keep wondering if the buprine would have been a better choice for pain relief any advise on dosing with the tramadol they are 50mg and 1/4 of a pill should be about 12.5mg he weighs 11lbs. Forgot one thing she offered me a bottle clenz-a-dent a chorhexidine rinse any one familiar with this solution.
