I had my first low last night and we did just fine with honey and fancy feast but I’ve discovered a new problem today - he’s holding out for more fancy feast.

He’s been raw fed his whole life and has never had fancy feast before. He’s had occasional canned food but always low carb meat only food so fancy feast was like feeding him candy.

I’d like him to keep eating raw and I know it’s most important that he eats even if it’s not ideally what I want him eating but what do other raw food families give when having a low? Just wondering if there’s a better plan to make to keep us on track.

You can add honey or karo/syrup to his raw food to boost him up. Other options are to make your own gravy with rice or potato flour, or to use something like the Honest Kitchen dried raw that contain potato and are higher carb. I caved and gave Neko some of the Weruva products when she was low. Grandma's Chicken Soup or some of the Cats in the Kitchen pouches are higher carb. I was also worried about phosphorus content so that's why the Weruva. When below 40 she got syrup on her regular food. The other options were for the 40-49 range.

Sheba was fed raw as well and I sometimes used Weruva brands that were higher carb for low numbers but I mostly used honey. Mostly just the tiniest drop or two was all that was needed. You will get to know how much she needs. She also loved the Weruva. If you are using honey to bring up BGs just be aware it wears of after about an hour or hour and a half, so you may need to repeat it. I always fed raw food with the honey.

I also feed raw. Can you help me find a recipe for the DIY flour?
And does the gravy take longer to wear off than the honey?

I also fed the Weruva higher carb options for lows, they contained potatoes or carbs. They lasted a couple hours. There is no recipe for the DIY gravy, just something you have to experiment with yourself.
