We will be traveling soon. We hired a vet tech to stay here for the six days and watch Millie. The young woman called me today to say that she now has a scheduling issue. She needs to be at work by 8:30 and Millie gets her shot at 9:00. The office is 30-45 minutes away (initially she thought that she could go in a little later but she can't). The vet told her it would be OK to give Millie her insulin an hour earlier!!! I told her maybe 15-20 minutes but I wasn't really comfortable with that. Millie is post DKA, twice. She also has a tendency to fluctuate to extremes and to bounce easily. This won't be an issue if the vet tech was going to be here but she'll be at work all day and cannot come by at much, etc. I've been the word out that I am looking for someone. My daughter thinks I can teach my 20 year old grand daughter to administer the insulin and test the bg, I don't think it's such an easy thing, esp with Millie.

Any thoughts? Am I wrong about the timing of her Lantus, etc?

Thanks for any feedback.

I was told an hour either way was ok by the vet too! That is the same as a dose increase. I keep it to 15/20 mins...Lantus is really meant to be given every 12 consistently.

I think vets are used to the none depot insulins where you can be more flexible with the dose timing.
Can you move the pm shot to be 12 hours after the am shot if she can come earlier?

Then it puts us in a bind for the PM shot (she leaves work at 8:30pm). I am online looking for vets that board, which is what we may have to do.
