Hi all.
So, Noob and I are well-travelled, he's been with me all over the world. But Thursday we are heading home to the US and I'm a little nervous about the return trip. On our 3 hours trip from Sevilla to Madrid (where our flight home leaves from), he was panting on the train, which is new he's usually a very calm traveler, and then he had a poop accident in his carrier which has never happened before. I think it's just because he hadn't gone yet that morning. Our flights home will take about 14 hours between 2 flights and a layover, so I want to be able to avoid him having an accident while also taking proper care of his diet and insulin needs. Does anyone have tips for preparing for the long trip home and caring for him en route? Thank you!

When you say all over the world I'm assuming this includes flying, not exactly the joyous thing it used to be. Maybe Noob is just getting older and less tolerant.
If you dig through Jenna & Kitsu (GA) postings/threads you'll find all the advice she got flying Kitsu from California to Ireland. Kitsu is gone now so contacting Jenna might not work. Some of the basics I've learned;
-Working hard at not annoying passengers and grumpy flight attendants includes many piddle pads, double bagging anything smelly, asking ahead of time about allergies.
-Bringing sharp pointy things on to an airplane. Diabetic humans travel with syringes all the time but this still might require "proof" whatever that means.
-You're already aware of Ryanair. What I tried to tell Jenna was what a special Hell it is flying Air Canada and/or using Toronto airport. (YYZ) She did it anyways and confirmed everything I said. It's mostly the ground staff that will go out of their way to annoy you and Canada Border services has the same pointed object up their behinds.
-Book some extra washroom time with the flight attendants so Noob can get out for the world's shortest walk and some personal time.
-On many airlines the upper deck on 747's is not business class. There's not many people up there so it's nice and quiet. Also, the "Red-eye" is more of a business/adult thing so again, quiet and no screaming kids.
Best of luck, let us know how it goes.

Haha yes, he’s flown and road-tripped a whole lot. He’s an old pro. But yes I think he’s definitely less tolerant these days. He’s generally good and quiet on trips, mostly sleeps and never meows, so I’m lucky there. I stocked up on piddle pads and wipes and bags. we’re taking TAP Air Portugal, (thank vos not Ryanair!) The Portuguese and Spanish seem to be more laid back about rules, but I have all of his medical records if they need some proof for his diabetes kit.
Good idea about the washroom time. We have a 4.5 hour layover in Lisbon right around his feeding/insulin time, so I was going to take him to a family bathroom and let him roam and eat a bit. have you let yours out in the plane bathroom? I never thought of that!
I’ll let y’all know how we fare tomorrow!

Tomorrow! So much for that window seat in a 747.
Unfortunately my two boys had to fly in cargo (more Air Canada BS) but they were a bit doped up and flew together in a crate meant for a small horse. They lived to 17 and 23 so the flight was the least of their worries. Our dog, "Big Dog with amazing bladder control" has flown across Canada three times but the agents all loved him so we secured a leash to his crate and they were fighting over who got to walk the dog. Dogs that big don't fit under any seat.
I found Jenna's thread, skip over the sad parts which had nothing to do with travelling.
buena suerte novato

Hi all! Sorry I didn't have the chance to check back in.
So, after 2 days of airline drama, we have arrived safely at our home in the US. The checkin desk crew did a series of messups and caused us to miss our first flight, leaving us stranded there at the airport, spent hours on the phone with customer service to get on another flight, eventually family stepped in and got us home. Oof.
Noob handled it all like a little champion and we had no major incidents during travel (except for a poop during landing!) He snoozed in his carrier most of the time, got out and ate/explored at his scheduled times.
Checked in with his vet here today. His blood glucose numbers are down since arriving, so the vet has him on 2 units, once daily, and his insulin type changed. Started a new copy of the spreadsheet today to track his numbers with the new setup, but still saved his previous spreadsheet from Spain.

How's everything going by the way can't see your spreadsheet what insulin is he on now your intro post said prozinc and your signature says vetsulin ??
, insulin should be given twice a day not once per day
You have to
To set spreadsheet sharing permission:
* At the top right of the spreadsheet screen click on Share.

* In the pop-up dialog box click on the Get Link section.

* Change link access from 'Restricted' to 'Anyone with the link' and make sure that the permission on the right hand side is set to 'Viewer'.

* Click Done to save the changes.

Ope, sorry about that! It should be showing now.
He has Vetsulin now, but his blood glucose numbers were so low that we weaned off it. He's been eating canned Fancy Feast since we got here. I can run a curve on him tomorrow so you can see where he's at.

How many units of vetsulin was he getting ?
Yes run a curve that would be great
Have you still been testing him since he's off the insulin ?
Just looked at your SS his BG numbers are looking great
Can you put NS in the unit cells (no shot)

The vet here said to give him 2 units, one time per day. But his glucose was holding below 100 so we weaned him down. I've been testing him still at feeding and mid way between meals and he's been usually between 70-90.

Any tests after 7-4
Like I said his numbers look great !
Just out of curiosity can you get a few night time tests
