We recently started Charlie on Tram Tiny Tabs compounded from Wedgewood Pharmacy. He was on a trial dose of 5mg BID (one dose at amps with a meal, one dose at pmps with a small snack). It really did wonders for him. He was more active, quicker and lighter on his feet, much better bg numbers than we have EVER seen, and very happy. After about 5 or 6 days on it, he got sick on 9-19. Vomited twice, diarrhea, inappetance, lethargy. He still has soft poop today, and a lower appetite than normal. Still good numbers, though. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms as side effects of tram, specifically the tiny tabs. My vet recommended that I pull him off of it (hasn't had a dose since yesterday morning), and if his health is back by Friday, to start 5mg SID, but only given after a full meal. She thinks it may just be irritating to his tummy. If that doesn't clear up the problem, we will look into either injectible or transdermal tram. Anyone experience anything like this? Was it the tram? His food? A bad bug he may have eaten?

What makes you think it is the Tram Tiny Tabs? My experience has been that drug problems often show up the first day or two.

I have tamadol in the past and am currently using it on my civi Joey (12.5 mg BID) and have never experienced such a problem. I never heard of injectable or transdermal tramadol.

Larry- The transdermal & injectable are both compounded. I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues with wedgewood's compounded form in the tiny tabs specifically. Those are 10mg tablets. With the 12.5mg dose it sounds like you're using 50mg tablets from a human pharmacy.

BJM- I'm just grasping at straws to figure out why he got sick. The tram was the most recent change, so it's the first suspect ;) Last one in is the first one out, so to speak.

I myself would not use a transdermal tramadol. Although any med can be compounded as a transdermal, the effectiveness of most transdermals are questionable. Methimazole for hyperthyroidism is one of the transdermals that do work.
