? Toujeo as an alternative to Lantus

Hope everyone is doing well.

It has been a while since I posted. Raja is feeling a lot better and regulated with most of his weight back. He is still weak in his hind legs and I have kept up with Zobaline.

Wanted to inquire whether anyone has tried or heard of once a day Toujeo as an alternative to Lantus from the same makers. My doctor mentioned it to me. Supposedly it is even more gradual, better storage.

Toujeo comes up occasionally here, but nobody here has ever used it so it's not something we really recommend since there's no data on how it works in cats (and nobody wants to risk their cat's health trying it)

I understand there may be some people using it in Europe, but I haven't seen anybody here use it and haven't seen any results of testing on European cats

Good to hear from you Arman, and to get a Raja update. His numbers are looking much better.

The problem with Toujeo is that it's a U-300 insulin (3 times stronger), and there are no U-300 syringes. People dispense it with special pens. It's a more concentrated insulin. Might be a good idea for high dose kitties, but otherwise way too hard to get itty bitty dose changes with the U-100 syringes we do have. There are some people with high dose kitties that are trying Toujeo, but only for kitties whose doses are a LOT larger and are making dose changes by a large amount.

Toujeo is not once a day for cats! Lantus is a once a day insulin for humans, as is Toujeo. A cat's metabolism is twice a fast as a humans so Toujeo would also be a twice a day insulin. The duration is the same as Lantus. The only difference is the concentration.
