My guy ate at 8:20 pm after I tested him (307 on ReLion meter). I meant to give him his shot after he finished but got caught up in some client work. It's now 9:40 pm, almost an hour & half after he ate. Should I give him a shot? Is it too late? Should I test again before giving late shot? He's on one unit ProZinc.

Argggh.. I hate it when I do stupid stuff like this.

Tomorrow, no. Latest I could shoot him in the morning would be 9:00 a.m. That's what, 11 hrs? He's not exactly on 12 hrs right now, some days it's 11/13, or 12/11, etc. Variance of about an hour.

It would really help if you'd add some information to your signature (where you have his spreadsheet link)

I had to go through all your posts to see which insulin you were using (ProZinc I think?)

Most of us put the following info into our signatures so people don't have to keep asking the same questions over and over again:

Your name/cats name, age, sex, date of diagnosis, type of insulin, type of meter, type of food, any other health issues? and maybe a general location.....then the link to your spreadsheet again and "save"

I put his insulin and dose in my opening post. But I'll update the siggy, thanks.

ETA: Ok, I think I have all the pertinent stuff in the siggy. I hope.

Well I don't use ProZinc, but it's an "in and out" insulin, so you could probably get away with it tonight....but I'd make sure you get an AMPS in the morning before shooting early just to make sure he's not going to run too low

You might want to start shooting while he's eating (if he'll let you....most cats don't even notice while their faces are buried in the food bowl) so you don't get distracted again

I know if I didn't shoot while China was eating and waited until she was done, I'd do the same thing...get busy on something else and forget it entirely :blackeye:

I usually stand there leaning against the counter til he's done, then scoop him up for his shot as he's walking out of the kitchen. At the moment, my health isn't such that I can bend over long enough to inject while he's eating (i put him on the counter). So, I just don't leave the room again.

I opted to skip the late shot last night. His BG was down a bit this morning at 241. It's been running in the mid 300's. He did get a shot this morning though!

I found that I could train Callie to jump up on the card table for her tests, feeding and shots. It sure saves my back. She will do anything for freeze dried chicken.

You can get it at PetSmart, Petco, Amazon.....even some WalMarts

The thing to look for is the ingredients....if it contains only a protein source and nothing else, it's fine for a treat.

China doesn't like the freeze dried treats at all, but she LOVES the Orijen Wild Boar treats
Orijen makes a selection of excellent freeze dried treats. Teasel is getting the wild boar treats now and loves them. He's fond of the chicken treats too. There are a few more mixtures like lamb, venison, etc.
