Toothpaste without sugar

Has anyone found a toothpaste for cats that doesn't have sugar in it like C.E.T. does?

I contacted a compounding pharmacy, but they said they don't compound toothpaste.

Thank you for any information.
 
I'm curious about this myself, I looked up toothpaste here on the board and was reading some of the older threads and people said that the chicken and seafood CET was fine, but then on another post I read that it has sorbitol in it which is toxic to dogs and potentially toxic to cats. Just did a quick internet search and many are saying that the effects on cats (and ferrets apparently) are unknown. So I just bought a baby finger toothbrush, put some water on it, and attempted to brush my cat's teeth with that until I find out more about the toothpaste.
 
Ah! Now I have been thinking about this very topic for a week or two. How many people clean their cat's teeth, and do you have any tips? I have been thinking this might be a situation calling for the cat-burrito-manoeuvre... but does cleaning their teeth with a toothbrush work?

I was meant to take Akbah to the vet for a major tooth cleaning. So far as know he just has terrible dirty teeth, but no cavities. But I saw that lovely white cat Klinger nearly die under anaesthetic, and its got me freaked.

Edited to add: I just did a search on "toothpaste" here, and have a lot to read now... :oops:
 
The CET poultry flavored and seafood flavored toothpaste are fine to use on a diabetic cat :smile: The glucose oxidase is an enzyme, not a sugar.

You're not using a lot of toothpaste, just a teeny dab which won't cause any health issues. The sorbitol is likely only a very small part of the ingredients.

I know Dr. Lisa has said that you don't even need toothpaste at all. The scrubbing action of the toothbrush or gauze is enough to remove food particles and stuff.

My cats were easy to brush: just stick the toothbrush into their mouth and scrub away :smile:
