I realize it's been a while since I posted about Tom's health.
Things got so bad for awhile that I began posting about him on the grief forum, I was becoming certain he was not going to reverse course.
It has been a week to the day that his course did in fact change.
Last Fri. he began eating on his own.
I was so close at that point to considering 'when the time would be to consider'
He was skinny, frail and weak.
He had taken to letting me carry him around. He still went outside...but his personality had changed. He had withdrawn emotionally from me.
My daily life had become all about getting a bit of food in him any way, any how, any where.
Along with his subQ, his anti nausea, his syringe feedings.
He began to make it clear to me he DID NOT WANT THAT ANYMORE.

Then he began eating. ;-) CarlinSC....and it was gradual. I did not want to let myself get too hopeful.
It's been fits and starts but overall he is better all the time. He is a lighter weight cat now...but he is back to his old self and I can now let you all know about it. I don't think it's a false alarm.

Of course the girls who sent me those 18 gauge needles helped.
The raw chicken livers ;-) eeraby (Beth) helped.
The suggestions for syringing food to him, and for allowing the crack, and for the anti nausea meds that I had laying around since my chemo...that helped.
And CarlSC sending vibes out while turtle egg babysitting on the South Carolina Islands helped most miraculously.

And you all helped me not to fall apart to badly in the face of this unexpectedly dire situation.

I love you all, You all help me more than I can ever pay forward.
Tom is well today and I am breathing easy and sweet. Life is back to normal.
Thank you,
Lori

Dearest Lori and Tomtom,
That is SUCH goooood news for you to be able to post this and feel it is not a false alarm! and You both deserve it!!!
You help soo many ppl here and it is very nice to see that your own furry family is doing good, he is behaving and letting mommy get a worry break!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK TOM
Mommy nursed you back from whatever was causing you to not eat and it is wonderful news to hear!

Lori, so glad he is doing better. I was worried about him, and you, while reading some of your posts. Your comments during my rant 2 weeks ago helped me put things into perspective. Your love and devotion for Tom helped pull him through. Hugs to you, and kisses to Tom.

Lori, you are amazing! I didn't realize Tom was in such difficulty, and here you've been helping me and many others while worrying so much yourself.

God bless you Lori, and Tom, wonderful news, and he is in our prayers for continued improvement.

Great news.. a few times I think our Sophia is not going to last long.. throwing up and not eating and all of a sudden she rallies and starts eating again.. I am soo glad for you and Tom.

What wonderful news, Lori. It sounds like soon Tom Tom will be back to being "Lord Tom" in no time! Give him some pets from me.

Wonderful news!!!! I'm so glad he is eating again and hopefully he'll put some weight back on. Good job Momma Bean!!

These cats of ours can sure give us some grey hair

Lots of hugs to you both!

Soooo pleased to read this!! :RAHCAT :thumbup
You did so much to help him, Lori, even though you must have been on the verge of despair, and it has paid off.
If only you could ask what it was that upset him?!

So glad Tom is completely back to his old self! Tom is lucky to have someone so dedicated looking after him.

Well well well, I don't want to give you all the impression he is COMPLETELY back to his old self.
For example,,,he is no longer a hoover. I still have to coax him a bit to eat anything but those darn raw chicken livers...He comes for his fuds but is dissapointed it's not chicken livers all day long! I feel I gotta get some variety in him.
His attitude is def. better.
I'm watching him now...camped out by the fireplace and busy cleaning and arranging his fur.
He is looking stunning and clean..(He's gonna KILL ME for saying 'stunning')
But,,,,,I did just get home and no greet at the door. He did hear me open a can and no coming into the kitchen, he did mosey over when he saw the plate put down and licked for a bit but lost interest.
I had to take out the temptations and trick him into eating a wee bit.

But, the thing is...he does not look and act as if he is dying.
He is not scaring the crap out of me with that look.
So, I'm happy. He's happy. A bit skinny....but happy.

What is it with the chicken liver????? My civvie Lil Sista only wants chicken liver, I cook them for her, but really, that is all she wants! I would like for her to munch on more, but noooo.

I bought a baby scale and she is gaining by the day....last reading was 2.8 and now she is 3.9!!!! Growing tooo fast!

I also weighed Sugar Bean and she has dropped weight to 8.15-.20! She was closer to 9 in May...after being 11.5 in November!

Civvie Slappy weighs in at 6.8, so she has regained hers from 5.8 after not eating for days!!!!!!

Wishing Tom will add a little variety to the dinner plate for you!!! Have a furry fun day!

Shelly, I know...chicken livers???????? The original finder of this tasty gem was Eeraby (Beth) and in just 3 weeks I went from gloves and not looking...eeeewwww! to just pullin on out of the container, bloody and all, rinising it with my bare hands and sissor cutting into precise size pieces.
Another example of stimulating growth that happens on the board! :YMSIGH:

Way to go Tom! Lori, been waiting for the update since I saw your post in grief (and almost freaked out!) Glad things are better, keep on eating Tom, Mama doesn't mind the bloody mess as long as you eat.

Hi Lori,
I am so happy to hear that Tom is coming back,
I will continue to pray for you two!
