Hi ...well so far, so good. I'm confused about the bg #'s....in the am before he eats its usually around 78......two hours after he eats it goes down....i thought it was supposed to go up after eating. Highest number has been 84.....what kind of test should i ask for to make sure all his organs are ok? I feed him ff...one in the am and one in the pm....with a half at lunch. He weighs 19 lbs...seems to be doing fine. Right now doesnt seem to be drinking anything.....but i understand that when they eat the wet food, water consumption goes down. Do the kittys go back and forth with this or do you think just changing his food helped this much? I dont understand the vets still insisting on dry food.
Does anyone use Purina ProPlan to feed? I was told that it was higher in protein and lower carbs than fancy feast. I called the company and they woudnt say. Any ideas how i can find out? The print on the can is impossible for me to read, even with glasses on. Also the lady at Pet smart said she totally disagreed with my feeding him wet food......what a surprise. Told her she should do her homework and look at this board. thanks for all of your help.

Hi!

Yep just a mere food change can do that much good! One of the ways we tell if they are making their own insulin is when you feed them they drop in numbers AFTER eating. That is the good old pancreas functioning to use the food to change it over to energy for the kitty. That doen't happen when they are diabetic and the pancreas isn't working right, or is completely on strike.

Great news!

Do you mean Purina Pro Plan dry? It is between 27 - 35% carbs. http://binkyspage.tripod.com/dryfood.html If you mean their wet pro plan, they do have the ingredients on their website: http://www.proplan.com:80/wet-cat-food/ ... fault.aspx Looks like lots of them have gluten, rice and oats.

Remember once a diabetic, always a diabetic. You can't change back to dry or a high carb wet without the risk of his blood glucose levels going up again.
