(ok, really just wanted to borrow a condo for a few days, you know, party when I feel better...)

Btw, Gayle (and Shadoe), vet tells me "we have this great lady that comes here and she takes in diabetics. She is incredible at taking care of them and she is very involved." so I say: Is she Oliver and Shadoe's mom?
Yes it is! Well, she raved about you :-D

Ah, what can I say

I try to educate them every chance I get, whether they want to hear it or not.
Often, I can see their eyes glaze over and they are doing the smile and nod thing

Which vet was it? I seem to have been owned by Steede, but wish we could see Dr. Vihos as she is so awesome.

Hey, you educate them, we all benefit!!
We saw Steede today for the first time. We usually see Dr Vihos. They are all very nice.
Can't wait to pick up Tom. House is so empty without him

I bet he can't wait to get home to YOU too. He actually has the worst part of the deal, no?
I am so sorry you both had to go through this...but actually, the xray was good. Hope the lab work is the same. He looks so much like my boy Jealousy who I miss so much.....handsome boy he is...his eyes are exactly the same as Jealosy's....

Wonder if he will tell you about his stay at the vet office....or maybe he won't want to discuss it at all!
Hope the time flies by till you can go get him. Hugs to you all!

when do u get him back?

hey check it out - your thread is all Toronto gals!

They're going to call when they're done - enema, squids, blood work etc...
Clinic closes at 11pm. DH is working late and I'm keeping DD up 'cause I'll need to take her with me (in her pjs)
I could leave him overnight but I don't want to. Will just have to deal with a tired child tomorrow.
Tom is going to be very cranky.

I noticed the thread too!

Hi,Sonia!
had To join the group!
Hope that after cleaning his sistem or 'plug',Tom is gonna feel much better.
I use similar to 'Miralax",vet gave me prescription for 1lb(last 2yrs) Give Jake 2xday 1/8 tsp with watered food. works fine.
Nice that You come visit LL1

Tom's back and we're on poop patrol

The enema didn't work: Tom would't poop at the vet.
Figured it would be best for him to come home and if there's no poop by morning, he'll go back for another.

He's not happy but went straight for his food.

What do you mean it didn't work? How could it not? Shadoe was really blocked up but they expressed her just fine. Did they give a reason why no luck?
I hope he's able to be successful tonite.

poor kitty, having his poop issues broadcast all over the board. :o Oh well, I think all of our cats have had that problem. I hope Tom poops soon.

Oh poor Tom. I hope he is able to go tonight for you and he doesn't have to go back to the vets tomorrow. Tell him he has Tori's party to go to.

Sorry to butt in here - Not being from Canada :-D I read "enema" and my ears perked up

Cody had really bad megacolon and after trying MANY things over years, (including some pricey compounded drugs) I finally have it very well controlled with :
miralax (OTC), daily fluids SQ LRS, WET food, and the occasional HOME warm water enema.

Now if the enema didn't work, Tom may be backed up to the point of needing to be anesthetized, that happened to us once, but I would strongly encourage you to ask for the enema kit that they used and are going to throw away, and have them show you how its done. Its really not that difficult and it has saved us a lot of $ and trouble. No poop for 4-5 days and its enema time, before things get really bad. Just be sure you keep him in a small room with a window, for about an hour afterward

Sorry don't know your history, but if its a chronic problem- this is the best solution we found by far.

I have no experience with this...They just said they gave it to him and waited for him to poop and he wouldn't. Said sometimes they don't at the vet. Does that make sense?

Nancy, they say he doesn't have much backup, just a few small hard pieces.

He just tried to go again...

I just checked Shadoe's binder and the charge was called Anal glands *expressed*
that cleaned her out good and she was blocked up pretty good at the time.
if that's what they tried and it did not work then ask them to give you something that going to soften or loosen up the stool.

Ok. When I talked to the vet, she said to bring him home and if he doesn't poop, we'll go back in the morning they'll do another. we'll talk about softeners.

He's fast asleep on my lap now.

the trouble with miralax in this situation is that it works by drawing water into the poop that it is in. In other words, you HAVE to clear the small areas of blockage before it can work to keep all new food he eats soft. It is not a laxative, it is a softener, and you need to increase water to compensate for the water which gets drawn into the bowel.

I would definitely try a day or two of sub Q lactated ringers. Sometimes it will get Cody moving when he's miserable
