No poop. Back for another enema. Not a happy camper.

Quick chat with vet this morning about yesterday's blood work. Only got 1 number quickly over the phone, the one that is slightly higher than last year's: creatinine 228 vs 219 last year (range 53 - 212 mmol/L)
She says nothing out of the ordinary in the other values but I'll get a copy of the report when I pick up poopy butt later.

Re: Tom back at the vet's

aw poor poopy butt, come on Tom - poopee's are fun and u feel so much lighter afterwards!

I wonder what enema's are like with kitties, I use to have to do them with a parapalegic friend, nothing to it!

good luck today Sonia!

Re: Tom back at the vet's

I hope Tom gets all cleaned out today. He'll feel so much better once that is over with. Bloodwork sounds pretty good.

We're back!

It wasn't happening so they finally manually helped him to get rid of the plug. He went again by himself after.
So far, vet only told me that there is nothing unusual on the blood tests, except the creatinine slightly higher than last year's. But there's the weight loss.

I am seeing her tomorrow to discuss, I'll get a copy of the labs and maybe we'll have some of all of the urinalysis back then too. (going back tomorrow for Minnie's wellness check and dental consult - she badly needs it  )

I think we'll start sub-qs maybe a few 2-3 times a week? I'll have to learn to do that. Find it intimidating. I'll post labs when I get them.

Re: Tom back at the vet's

Thanks Linda! Just watched the video. Helps a lot.
I still think I'll ask my vet to do it with me the 1st time.

Re: Tom back at the vet's

Just be very careful with those needles - they are wicked sharp and you can easily slice your finger and not realize....yes been there done that.

Hey Tom, Are you all pooped out now? How about coming over to Shadow's party! It's going to be a howling good time. And I've got a uniform, errrr outfit that I think you would love to wear!

Signed, Maui the Magnificent

what does your vet think? seems a little early to start squids, imho. how's his appy? any vomiting or diarrhea (except for this couple of days, obviously) - or any other dehydrating factors? are you already adding water to his food?

Vet thinks it may be a good idea to start but we would discuss tomorrow with more data on hand.
Appetite is ok. When they weighted him yesterday he had lost almost 2 pounds. Mind you, he was a bit dehydrated and he actually feels heavier today.
He has been vomiting rather regularly of late, oddly before eating. Not after.

We have been adding water to his food since his early dx last summer. They all eat soupy food now. We had also removed all fish.

I would really appreciate input when I gets all the labs back.

Re: Tom back at the vet's

You will have no problem giving SQuids; when you are at the vet office just have the vet tech guy to show you / have you give them. That is what we did for Shadoe.
The guy showed me everything and how to do. Under a watchful eye, they can teach you on the spot and then you won't worry if you are doing something wrong.
The needle's mighty big so you will definitely 'feel' it go into the skin the first time.
Shadoe got used to them but there was one time she had had enough and sort of did a slow slink away and the needle came out and there were fluids leaking out. Shadoe definitely acted like she was feeling better after, but maybe the big needle was bothersome to her.
To me, if you are giving insulin shots already, you can easily give the SQuids.

As for the vomit before food, maybe an empty stomach is the problem some acid is irritating the stomach. I know that Shadoe eats her cat grass in the am before shot and foods and she hurls it up sometimes too.
I hope you get good results on the tests, but get a copy of everything and question each value that is out of range to see what her explanation will be.

Re: Tom back at the vet's

Makes perfect sense. I made the observation to DH last week that I found it odd that Tom would vomit mostly in morning, on an empty stomach, just before me getting up to feed them.
Will talk about it tomorrow.

Re: Tom back at the vet's

Glad they got that out though....now, a careful watch on him ....that is so good that you got him back in there...
the kitties are all here for the new Moon Party and we'd love to see Tom too....maybe the dancing and giggling with his friends will cheer him up....I think they already called him so don't be surprised if he is getting himself all ready to come!
Good job there kiddo! Sounds as if you are getting a lot of good suggestions....wishing you well...
