Bear with me. Up since 3 am, mr b spent the day at the vet.

Along with the elevated liver enzymes we already knew about, his new trouble is anemia and possibly a platelet disorder, and he was dehydrated. When they drew his blood, he bruised. He has normal number of platelets, so she suspects a disorder. His clotting is fine, its the bruising she was worried about.

Still waiting on other test results. He does have a teensy fever. So small its not really a red flag.

His appetite is back. He got fluids IV all day.

Me, i'm just blaming his unregulated diabetes for the bruising. Weaker vessels and whatnot but what do i know.

Thoughts?

Autoimmune disease may affect blood production, including how well the various cell types work. And since hr has diabetes, arthritis, and hyperthyroidism which can be due to an autoimmune attacks, perhaps there could be something related to his blood issues.

(Been there, have that - Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease - frequently anemic, and sometimes the platelet counts dive, causing tons of bruising).

I second the idea that it could be autoimmune. Would require lab work to know for sure.

On another note--I have iron deficiency anemia and need long term iron supplementation. My RBCs are smaller than they should be, my blood volume is lower than it should be, and I bruise very easily. Its an anemia thing, BUT not necessarily an indicator of anemia.
