Considering he is going down, sounds like a good choice. Remember if you don't feel comfortable don't shoot. We don't want you to be uncomfortable with what you are doing.

when I saw the 165 I was like " self.... dont give insulin"
then a hour later he was 145. I just got home and he is eating right now. I will probably be running in & out today. Starting to only want to eat Tuna & Egg though.....

Great AMPS this morning, Sherri! You were absolutely right to forego the dose! This is exciting - GO, Skittles!!!:D

Awesome! Go skittles!!!! Try not to give him fish more than twice a week because of the heavy metals. This is very exciting that he is doing so well ! :)

Awesome! Keep testing for ketones, don't want anything messing things up!

havent tested for keto's since this AM which was neg ( gotta catch him at the litter box, but I do have the strips ready ) here are his numbers today. he has NOT has insulin since last night at 7 PM
AMPS= 165 NO insulin
+1=147
+7=130
+12=142

Now I just have to catch him at the box. I dont even know what to do if the test strips show anything?

Its getting really hard on me to get up at 5:00 AM to pick up food and then again at 7:00 AM, so how important really is it for me to pick up his food? Im a night owl and my bed time is between 1-3 AM

Testing once a day is plenty for ketones. If you see any, post here asap.

How much food is still on the plate usually when you pick it up?

If you don't pull the food, then there is a chance that his AMPS number might be higher if he eats between 5 and 7 am.

However, his numbers today are almost identical, which means his body, at least right now, is holding his BGs down. Not quite "normal" numbers but pretty darn close!

You might see a 200 at AMPS? But if you do, I think it will be at least in part due to food (assuming you don't pull up his food at 5am.) Should that happen, I'm thinking that if you decide to shoot a number around 200, I'd think about maybe a .5u dose. Something less than 1 unit. Does that make sense?

Yes, that all makes sense. I will probably just keep getting up. I'm using 40 U and doing half units is just guessing as close as possible, and doing .5 units will be so hard until I can get my new glasses ( gotta get bio focal now :( )

Shoot! I meant to post NOT much food earlier. I waste a lot of food from sitting over night. Not even half a can gets eats

You've shot at 192 before. YOU need to feel comfortable with it, and be able to test afterwards. Maybe 180? And no more than .5u.

I'm not completely comfortable advising someone else on what "I" would do.

What nice numbers yesterday!

Have you considered a timed feeder? If you get the one with several compartments, you could just set it to go to an empty one 2 hours pre shot. That way, no food is available and you get some sleep!
