Today is Beau's Birthday! (Aug 8th)

He is 14. This is some kind of miracle.

When he was diagnosed with HCM in 2002 at the age of three, I pressed the board certified cardiologist for a prognosis: 2-5 years. He was dignosed with FD in 2007 AFTER the end of that time range. He has been OTJ nearly 3 years now and has had hyperT since early 2009. My vet calls him the miracle cat and is still surprised at his ability to overcome these health concerns.

In spite of all of this I am beginning to worry about him again (I worried that whole first 5 years after his HCM diagnosis) because I have learned that anything is possible, including the very worst and on a moments notice. But for now, he is 14 an age I never thought he would reach.

Here he is a few days after I caught him (notice all the white), "flying solo" (OTJ) in 2009, ...................and last month

Here are a few of his friends:

Beau is a miracle of modern medicine.

And he looks so healthy and vibrant in the latest pictures, it kind of puts you on guard.

Happy 14th Beaumont!

Great pics! Happy Birthday Beau!!! party_cat party_cat party_cat

Do you consider him a ___ point Siamese? My Whitey is a flame point... but despite having a house full, I still don't profess to knowing all the varieties! I think my Nicki may be a Caliby! That was news to me, but the picture sure looks like it! I'll have to share...

I love this one. Shows his unconditional trust of the photog. And of course the one with the aviator gear too. :thumbup

I really enjoy the pictures of you with the cats (i.e. Murphy and Jeddie) they really capture the synchronicity. cat_pet_icon

Yeah, he has intense eyes.

Dale, he was about to get a treat in the one you reposted - so more like unconditional anticipation in the photographer than trust, lol! But what do you mean by "On guard"?

He's is an old man cat. Never thought I'd get to see that with him. He is getting all kinds of treats today. I gave him some Lactaid milk in the morning, a piece of cheese at my lunch time, and some chicken just now. I have some FF salmon appetizers for later and I just boiled a big batch of chicken breast chunks for them so I will give him some of the broth, which he loves.

And I was told he is a lavender lynx point by some Tonkinese breeders. That seems to fit with the coloring descriptions I have found on line.

Then that would be *conditioned* trust that you won't renege on the treat? ;-)

By on guard I just mean just when everything seems perfect something throws a loop. But Beau already seems to have 18 lives, so he likely has plenty left.

I believe colorpoints may change color with the seasons and weather, since the pigmentation scheme is temperature sensitive. But I think they get darker in cooler temps and lighter in warm temps.

Changing colorpoints may be true for outdoor cats, but I don't think indoor ones change. I have noticed a darkening after spay/neuter and a lightening after years of hyper-T. Maybe the lightening with hyperT has do do with body temp and is caused by the same factor you are mentioning. Charlotte had color points that darkened after she was spayed and she definitely seemed to fade in those areas over her last few years.

For Dale's amusement, here is the one and only photo of me and Beau:

My sister took it as she happened to be there and my camera was on the table. He NEVER lets me pick him up and cuddle him like that. And he was purring. That is the ONLY time that has ever happened either. He actually stayed like that for 5 minutes. All my other photos with the cats are ones I have taken either holding the camera in one hand or using a timer. Well, the only one with the timer is the one with Jeddie up against my face. He was pretty annoyed at all the time it took and I have an out take where he looks pretty pissed off. I also have a photo of him from mid June, maybe the 20th and he looks very ill and is filthy, but he got in my lap while I was working at the computer and my camera was right there. I knew I had few more chances. It will go into the book.

Love the pictures Sheila. He is truly a beautiful cat.

I think he knew what he was doing when he appeared on your doorstep in Michigan. It always makes me wonder how he came to be there in the first place. Maybe someone who probably didn't deserve to have him, I don't know, but then he found you and here you are 14 years later.

May you have many more healthy years Master Beau, the miracle kitty. :)

Happy Birthday Beau!

P.S. always love that flying solo picture (shades of Mama). :)

Thanks Sheila!

What's amazing is as cautious and post semi-feral as Beau still is, that he took so well to the testing and shooting-on-demand routine. So he'll do anything for that treat.

And I guess we are finding out that "capturing that synchronicity" required many takes, retakes, tricks and treats? ;-)

A very happy birthday to Beau! I love that photo of you smooching on/snuggling with him!

He's a very handsome boy, and so very lucky that you have been there to nurse him through all of his physical ailments!
