Switched to Levemir last night, so he had it last night and this morning. BG ok, No ketones.

This morning He has had two "heart episodes" where he is panting, and yowling. On our way to the emergency vet now.

Please say prayers xxxx

Ohhhh I am sorry to see this, Kate... all positive thoughts and prayers going to precious Toby xx

Thank you all, his vitals are good, vet said it could have been a hypo, or could be a clot, we have been transferred to the specialist, just waiting for the cardiologist to arrive (called in from his weekend) they will scan his heart to see.

His BG was 39 at vets, his blood pressure 120 (which is low) and his body temperature 37 which is also low.

We now wait. He is absolutely fine in himself though, so I'm praying it's not his heart xxx

Hoping for the best. Continued vines. And look at that handsome lad bending the rules as per … lounging outside the Cat Waiting Area.

Love the photo!
Good to hear that he is fine in himself, usually a good sign. His positive attitude, and yours, will help I'm sure.
Paws still tightly crossed.

Hi all,
Thank you all so much for your love and well wishes.
They have kept him in, they are doing a heart scan and also putting on him on a 24hour cardio monitor (worn like a jacket!). They are worried that the little episodes he had are clots, the biggest fear being that there is a "mother clot" in his heart chamber, if it's just little clots then they can change medication, but if a bigger clot is found then I will be facing the hardest decision of my life.

I know you all understand how utterly distraught I am right now without my little shadow by my side, if only love was enough xxx

:bighug::bighug::bighug: Been following along all morning Kate. Hoping for the very best outcome, and yes, we understand how you are feeling right now. Hugs, loves, tons and tons of healing energies and light for Toby. More tons of peace to your worried heart and mind, we are holding you in loving virtual arms every moment.

We all totally empathise with you Kate, this is so very hard, my heart goes out to you. As you say - if only love was enough.
I wish I had better words but know that we are all with you and willing the very best possible outcome for Toby.

Thank you Diana, knowing I have somewhere to come and to get empathy and understanding is a great comfort xxx

The cardiologist just called me, he has found NO mother clot, thank heavens for that.

Toby had a perfect "textbook" heart rhythm tonight which means today's episodes were certainly little tiny clots as opposed to his previously diagnosed arrhythmia, had it been the latter they could medicate, but there is little they can do with the clots, they have put him on aspirin and they will keep him for 24 hours, they will take off his "cardiac monitor jacket " tomorrow evening and then send it off for analysis on Monday morning, so he will just hang out at the vets until then. I can get him tomorrow at 830pm.

Huge sigh of relief, hopefully he will have a restful night and be home tomorrow. Xx

Phew that sounds better news - and it does sound as if Toby is getting the very best treatment from people who know what they're doing. Well done for staying calm and remembering what the vet said to you - my brain wouldn't have processed all that at all, let alone recounted it here!
Try to get some rest yourself tonight knowing that Toby is in the very best hands and will hopefully be back home where he belongs tomorrow xx

Thanks Diana, I will. I feel incredibly blessed to have these specialists available, they called the cardiologist in from his weekend off! This obviously all comes at a cost, i do have insurance but they only cover 60% of the costs. Thank you again for your care and support xx

Thank you for the update. Please get some rest yourself Kate, so you can be in fit form to continue to take such excellent care of Toby when he comes home.

So relieved to hear this news. I've been holding my breath for you and little Toby all day. So happy he's being monitored so well and hopefully feeling better now than he did earlier.
Huge hugs to you, try to get some rest. It's been an incredibly stressful day for you.:bighug:

Thank you

You don't have to thank us, Kate, it's what we do here, we all support each other because of our shared love of cats and we know what it's like to be so worried. You've only been here a short while but you're already a real asset to the board and I hope you'll hang around!
I'm sure this treatment is costly, yes, but I expect that's the last thing on your mind atm.
Now go and get some zzzzzzzs!

Oh bless your heart Diana, that's made me well up! I feel beyond blessed to have stumbled across you all, it's the shared love of our sugary babes that bind us, but the care for the cat parents as well as the cats always gets me. I mean it though, thank you. Xx

Kate I'm so glad to hear it wasn't worse than they thought. Toby is in the best hands right now. Just looking at the picture of him laying around in the waiting area makes me smile. He is saying I'll be OK mom. Try and get a good nights sleep so when that beautiful boy comes home you can give him lots of cuddles and lovins
He is in good hands right now. Gentle hugs to you and Toby

Toby is home, his heart seems to be all good. However, he wont eat and has tested positive for ketones. When will this roller coaster level out. My poor boy is tired. He has drunk plenty, and had his 1iu of Levemir but he wont eat anything, not even his beloved sweets.
Thank you all for your continued support and well wishes xx

Kate --

If he is positive for ketones, it's imperative that you get food into him. There are 3 elements that cause ketones to develop: not enough insulin, not enough calories, and the presence of an infection/inflammation. If you've just gotten home, he may take a little while to settle down. Please try to get food into him, though. Baby food (all protein and broth, no veggies) is often a popular option for a kitty that's not interested in much else.

Glad to hear Toby is home but not about the ketones. If need be you may have to syringe feed him to get him started on some food. As Sienne mentioned, meat/broth only baby food is ideal. Hope he will settle in and decide he is hungry soon. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

So sorry to see this, Kate - the worry must seem endless, I know, it's really tough. Toby is a fighter but he's just had a stressful couple of days so he may need to feel settled again before he starts eating normally... meanwhile do whatever you have to do to get some food into him along with lots of TLC and let's hope that will get rid of the ketones.
Very best of luck xx

Thank you all. That was a long night, I think he was just really really grumpy about having the halter/harness on, and I dont think he ate or drank as he should with it on. I eventually managed to hand feed him some tuna, which got him started and then with lots if encouragement he ate a pouch if Sheba and then at 2 am he had another and again at 6am! I caught a wee at 4am and it was less ketones, just 1+ and I've just caught another at 8am and it was negative! Hurrah!
What a journey we are on!
Hes had his 1iu of Levemir this morning, I need to try and get some mid tests today as hes been in the new insulin at 1 unit for 3 days now and I would like to increase it, and i know that dosing is done on the nadir, need to try and catch it.
Thanks again to you all for being with me through this xxx
