Toby was dx with diabetes in mid-September 2014. I found this forum and was able to get a lot of my questions and concerns addressed. Toby was practically in the negative as soon as he left the vet's office which still has me baffled and concerned that I'm not testing him properly. My vet sent me home with instructions to test him with urinalysis strips. I did and (like I said) they have remained in the negative. I know the best way is to test blood using the ear, etc. but he seems to be doing great other than he hasn't put any of his weight he lost back on, which he may have been slightly over weight, but not excessive. I can feel his bones! So this has me worried. I'm wondering if I'm not feeding him enough food.
I feed him a 5.5 can of wet food (Friskies Pate) per day (half in am/half in pm) He acts like he's starving all of the time! My daughter said I should feed him one full 5.5 oz can in the am and a 5.5 oz can in the pm. I feel that's too much food. I work almost 10 hours/day so I cant give him 1/4 can and spread out his feedings throughout the day.
Can I supplement by feeding him dry food? Is the Friskies dry food high protein/low carb like the wet food?
