To shoot or not to shoot?

Started Lacey on 2.75 units today after being on 2.5 units for just under 2 weeks. She started out at 255.... +5 she was 106 and just now at +11 she was at 71. I just gave her some canned food, but what should I do about a shot tonight? Low dose? No shot?

Robin, if The Boot was mine, I'd shoot a reduced dose of maybe fat 1.75 or skinny 2.0 or skip completely - whichever you feel most comfortable doing. That 71 is awfully low for a +11 - you'll need to stay up and keep an eye on her night cycle if you do shoot.

I just gave her some food which she ate almost all of. I will test her again and probably do one unit. Then test her again in a few hours.

Things can change a lot in an hour

The problem with feeding at +11 is now when it's shot time, we won't know if Boots would have continued to drop or if the only reason she's up higher is the food

Robin, it's really important to try to get some tests in during that PM cycle, even if you can just grab a test on your way to bed at night. Most cats go lower at night and it's important to know if that's going on

Since she's new to greens, I wouldn't be surprised if she goes really high again due to "bouncing"...any time a cat goes into low numbers, lower than they're USED to being, or drops a lot of points quickly, their liver can react and release stored sugars and hormones to bring them back up fast..they "bounce"

It's important to not increase during a bounce too since when they start to "clear the bounce", they can clear it fast and if you happened to increase at the same time, you can cause problems.

I think the 1 unit is OK Robin...scritch pretty girl for me please. If possible, get as many tests as you can thru this coming cycle (I know, pj party) so you'll know how she responds to this change. It may come in very handy later. You might even use either the remarks section OR cell comments (alt F2 in the cell) to note what you fed or anything that might affect the numbers.

If you are not able to get some tests tonight, I would skip. She is clearing a bounce and you could see an active cycle tonight.

When you increase the dose when the bounce is clearing, you can end up with a very active cycle. If you shoot a reduced dose tonight, you still need to monitor as the depot can continue to bring the numbers down.

Well I just tested her and she was at 135. So I got her 1 unit ready....just as I was about to stick it in I noticed a droplet at the end of the needle. So I have no idea now what actually went in her lol. This is my life. So alas, I will not attempt to shoot again. I'll take it as a loss and test her a few more times this evening to see where she lands. Figures, when I needed to do it right I fubar it.

Give yourself a break Robin. I've fur shot, stuck myself instead of my cat, dropped and broken the bottle of insulin, overslept, and more. You do the best you can and keep on trucking.

While she has come up, she isn't that high. I would definitely get a +1 and +2 test. She could onset at +2 and head back down. You want to see a spike at +1 and if you don't, you will likely see a lower number at +2. If her +2 is close to the PMPS, it's likely you will see an active cycle.

I'm going to check her hourly for the next few hours. I'm not beating myself up over it. No worries. She's just staring at me, giving me the "you're doing it wrong" look. o_O
