To shoot or not to shoot - That is the question

Hi! Nice to see that green! Can you stall, don't feed, and test in 20 minutes from your first test?

I'm not qualified to talk about shooting but is your SS up to date? Did you shoot yesterday? Do you have any tests in the PM cycle to fill in? Just trying to think of things that may help others if they look at your SS.

If you do shoot, you'll want to start with a +1 and go from there. You may need to test more than every two hours.

Normally, the 98 means that Haly is heading up and it's safe to shoot.

However, 3U is a large dose and I'm not sure whether you have worked your way up from 1U with tests to see how low Haly is going at every increase. There isn't enough data on your SS for us to advise on dosing. Have you not given insulin between 1/25 and today?
 
Yes, still here. Reading the article you shared with me. I just fed. So I will stall and see what her next reading is. I'm basing that on this line from the article: If it is your first time shooting green, then we will likely suggest that you stall the first time, even if the number is 80-100. That will let you collect data on what your cat will do when you stall. One thing you can do if you are having a low cycle is to get a +10 and +11. Those will give you a good idea of how quickly the cat’s numbers are rising (or not) when preshot time arrives.
 
I give insulin every day, 3 units in am and 3 units in pm. I don't always test. I try to at least get an AMPS. This weekend was full of people visiting my house. So not able to test at all due to chaos!!
 
So you got a 72, re-tested immediately and got 98? The 78 was how long after? And were any of these readings after a meal?
 
Hi Barbara. I think there’s a very good chance that Halyis getting too much insulin. Many cats drop at number get and you don’t have any tests to show how low she is going. I suspect she’s been under 68 a lot and then bouncing high. I’m worried she could have a symptomatic hypo.
 
Hoping someone can give some insight again. I've run Haly's numbers today after holding off on her morning dose of 3 units of Lantus. Her pre dinner reading was 296 at 4:54 p.m. Dinner at 5:00 p.m. Reading an hour later is 293. Any advice on if I should give her evening dose or not? If so, how much? I know I should probably not drop more than .25 or .5 of her normal dose, but then again what if her normal dose of 3 units is too much? Hoping someone is willing to give advice. Food will bump up the bg fir two hours after eating. So stop feeding now and see what the PMPS is. It’s hard to know what to shoot though. We don’t have enough data.
 
I think insulin is needed. You need to see the PMPS bg to know for sure. Without tests before each shot and some middle of the cycle at night I have no clue how much less insulin to give. For now I think 3.0 is too much.
