He does have small cell lymphoma. I had very much expected [at least] this. VIP points here about IBD and potential lymphoma kitties - especially when old and/or perhaps inconclusive samples are available. PCR/clonality testing for lymphoma really helped here and was fairly inexpensive [especially when compared against exploratory surgery].

Institution to the North here is interested the the unusual lifespan of our family of kitties [brothers and mommy] once diagnosed with cancer. Today I was told that approx 1.5 years with large and intermediate T cell lymphoma that H had was "unheard of." F has had small cell now for obviously quite some time with inconsistent and minimal measures including some prednisolone for a few months. Mommy had 'full-on' chemo and we were told later the longest lived of any kitty on full chemo [which I would not/did not do again] this institution has encountered. My belief is that it is hopefully the level of care received by our kitties. I know I put F and H on a low carb grain free diet once there was any suspicion of IBD. In my Walter Mitty world, that has accounted for a lot. Other factors that may contribute are aggressive pursuit of diagnosis.

Your family is WAY more proactive with their cats than most people vets encounter out there. I think it is probably a mixture of genetics and vet's not used to the owner going to extra mile for their cats! I am so sorry to hear about F's diagnosis, but we all know that he is in the best care possible. cat_pet_icon

(((Gator))))
i had large b cell lymphoma 2.5 years back...i was given better odds. at least i HOPE so.
i would never put any kitty thru the treatment for it...not after what i went thru. better to live out his life in relative health and peace for what remains of it.

Thanks guys - thanks for your support.

As I mentioned in the Health topic, I view this as a 'happy' Dx -- all of our pushing, shoving and mountain moving got us somewhere hopefully. At least F at this point does not have to deal with an exploratory surgery just to find out info that was already available. They are talking about removing his spleen, not sure what we will do about that yet if that is the recommendation -- I'm not too keen on that idea yet. That would happen in a laparotomy type procedure that is what they would do for exploratory. So not sure if we really have avoided anything  . At least if they went in there they would know what they were in there for. But next week we will have decisions to make for him.

((((gator)))). I am so sorry for that lousy diagnosis. I need my magic wand! I think the vets don't have a clue about the effect of the loving care you give. He is so lucky to have you. (as are we). cat_pet_icon
