Loose Lips? What does that mean when in a post's subject line??? I should of asked this question eons ago....

OT: Gobbles has a vet appointment today for standard blood testing AND to let vet know he's OTJ (have SS, will travel  )

Re: Now here's a really dumb question...

It means "off topic " and usually has nothing to with diabetes. Sometimes not even about cats.
Sort of the LL version of a " Community" type post.

Re: Now here's a really dumb question...

it's basically the same thing as off topic.

it's a way to indicate that it's not FD related ....
so those looking for someone who needs help or having questions related to FD can scan and see that it's not a condo that is flagging them.

Re: Now here's a really dumb question...

omg....dah...now i get it....on my way to change the subject line...and context of this post as i have ? regarding Gobbles vet visit today...

Re: ? to ask for follow up on Gobbles OTJ vet visit

Okay...now that I know what loose lips stands for...have a ?

Gobbles is going to the vet today; hasn't been there since April. In fact, the vet doesn't even know he's gone OTJ--I'm bringing his SS.

I am getting the standard blood tests run--I can't afford to spend a lot for the visit and testing.... My ?:

Anything I should ask or bring up re: remission? Anything I'm forgetting to ask; generalized questions? I'm very scatterbrained today and know I
'll forget something...though Cindy (Sabrina) did remind me to test him while at the vet...

hey vapor!:

ha ha ````I had no clue what the Loose Lips was either! I figured in time I would "be in the know" enough to know what it was....hahaha. well, loose lips likes the pool that is all I know.

You mentioned you had the SS to take to the vet. I was wondering if you could print it out and take to the vet. now I know.

I can't believe your vet doesn't know you are OTJ. how exciting for you!!! you can't wait to tell them!!!! This makes me feel better about my relationship with my vet.

he has no clue that I am doing my own adjustments ........YIKES. Doesn't know I am trying to do the protocol. and evidently yours doesn't/didn't either? I am really in a dilemma over this secrecy. My vet was pushing the insulin at 1 unit increments with very little/to no data and now that I have loads of data....back off and hold a non-perfect dose he says freaked out by a 119 value! so I am walking a fine line between an educated Doctor and .....little ole me...about what is best with dosage. what to do?

again...enough about me.....glad you get to go BOAST today about Gobbles freedom from needles!!

ALL good news to you

Re: ? to ask vet on Gobbles OTJ vet visit

Yeah I'm in the same boat with the vet. He doesn't know that Cain's OTJ and doesn't even know that I was handling the insulin doses myself. When I got the Lantus prescription I was asked to bring Cain back in after two weeks. (I guess to check his blood sugar). :)

Well he'll find out when it's time to bring Cain back in I'm sure. Though Brownie has to go in first.

Yo vapor girl!!! (OT: Today I'm vaping Snickers--was stuck on the Blueberry Delight for like a week...but had a chocolate craving  )

Now I don't feel so silly about the loose lips! Ha haI

I have been taking a copy of his SS (including the "labs" page) since I started the Lantus TRP. He rolled his eyes the first time, and at the next visit, wondered where was the updated SS. When Gobbles first started seeing him, I was lucky in that he prescribed Lantus, started him at the correct dose (1.0), literally handed me a copy of Dr. Lisa's list (and told me feed only wet foods 7% and less) AND was okay with hometesting--though not the the extent that we here at LL do--he said "a few times a week", which I was doing for a little while...and when I brought the first SS in and explained to him how it worked with the color coating, PMPS, etc....he thought it was too excessive but I told him that it was okay and Gobbles didn't mind...again, eye roll--but then I think everyone in that office feels I'm "way out there"--which in my book, is a good thing!!! I blah-blah-blahed about the Lantus TRP; he had heard of it.

(If you need help getting yours to print out, just let me know. It should open a page (when you click on the print icon) and download it all in a PDF file. Make sure you get all the pages printed you want to print--but take a look at the PDF before you print it because there may be pages you don't need to print (the grids that haven't been filled in yet--future dates).

Gobbles seen him quite frequently for a while, especially when he had a month long bout of diarrhea; his last visit was in early April. When Gobbles went OTJ, I basically kept it to myself. He was very happy about it when I told him today.

And gosh, don't be afraid to keep it a secret--he's your cat and you pay the bills and you do what you want with him. I would suggest printing out the TRP and giving him a copy of it. Thank God you knew not to increase in whole unit increments--oh, the beauty of FDMB :-D and think how unsafe/dangerous your furchild would of been had you not joined us and started hometesting!

A good approach to your vet: Tell him/her something like, "You're a great vet and there's a new approach to getting cats into remission, especially on Lantus! Let him know just how many kitties have gone OTJ, how much support you receive and how excited you are to tell him/her about it. Heck, use me and Gobbles as an example!!!

Re: ? to ask vet on Gobbles OTJ vet visit

When Gobbles went OTJ, I basically kept it to myself. He was very happy about it when I told him today.

How much fun was THAT, Kat? I did the same thing. I came up with some plausible excuse as to why I had to skip an appointment while Bob was in the "Trial" phase, and I went in a couple weeks after he went OTJ with a copy of my "log book".

She said "so how's Bob doing?"
I said "pretty good, he hasn't had a shot since three weeks ago...."
She looked at the log, looked at me, and she was crying.
I said "ha, made you cry!" (yes, I've always had a way with the ladies ;-) )
All she could say was "this is the way it's SUPPOSED to work!" while I was thinking "well, DUH!"

Thank you for asking the question this morning. It brought forth some of the funniest comments I've seen in days!
I actually thought it was the name of a cat!
 that would make it a very popular name....
This one cracked me up!
hahaha. well, loose lips likes the pool that is all I know.

Hi Kat! I'm so glad you asked that!!! The other morning I was like "is that a cats name? Is it some sort of disease this lady's cat has? ". LOL!! I just couldn't figure it out either. I figured I would find out eventually.

I'm so jealous (but very happy for you and Gobbles)! I can't wait until I can show my vet Bob's ss and say "See??? I told you!".

Be prepared just in case Kelly! No matter what I showed the specialist I used (the ss, the TR protocol, the AHAA guidelines), she almost acted offended that I didn't want to follow her ridiculous instructions. I would take the ss in and she would just ignore it. I hope your vet surprises you though - you never know. But no matter what, Tom is your kitty and you do what's right for him.

Yup, Carl, it was great fun!!! I brought the SS (I always do) and showed him how he stepped down on the dosing scale and that he's OTJ (I told him what that meant and he thought that was funny) due to the Lantus TRP. I also discussed that his yukky yeast ear infection was back and that I didn't want to give him the mometomax (steroid) ear drops and he agreed; he cleaned his ears, said they didn't look bad and advised to start up the zymox otic non-cortisone ear drops again.

I'm glad you got some snickers with my silly question--looks like I wasn't the only one who missed that boat

I'm still at a loss as to the "pool" comment

Kat, I think the pool Loose Lips is Michelle and DGS pool adventures. Sometimes that is in the subject line!!

Congrats on the great vetty visit for Gobbles!

Cleo and I are still hanging in with our trial OTJ. Her numbers are not that low, so I am not counting my chickens yet.......but she feels great. I found some low phos/low carb foods that she likes, so life is good!!

Have a fantastic Caturday!!

Jane
