TK and Radar update

I wasn't sure where this post should go, so I just put it in here.

So far so good for the boys. Their appetites have been good, drinking normally, but their poo remains in a soft serve ice cream state. When we first brought them home Wednesday evening I thought they'd never settle down. TK was so glad to be home, he wanted to play, eat, drink, poop, pee.......all at once, it seemed! Radar literally walked every inch of this house, like he had to test his memory and make sure we didn't move anything on him.

I haven't heard from Dr. K on any test results yet, but hopefully they'll start coming in this coming week. TK's little bum was red and sore when he returned home. It's looking much better now.

This new vet office is amazing! It's soooo different than the one I used to go to. It's quieter, calmer, the employees actually take time to talk with me, and there's a LOT of compassion. On the trip there Monday TK left a lot of poo on the towels in their carrier, and the staff even threw the towels into the laundry, then dried them and put them back into the carrier for us! At the older clinic I'd be lucky to even get the towels back, and if I did they'd be in the same state as when I took them there.

As for Radar's one eye, Dr. K didn't go into a thorough exam of his eye, but she did tell me that she agrees that he does appear to have some sight, very limited, but yes, it's there. His other "eye" slit is so tiny that she feels there's nothing more in there other than tear glands, and to explore further he'd have to have surgery in order to open the eyelid further than it opens on it's own. So, in a nutshell as of right now, she doesn't think Radar should have enucleation done. There's no infection present in the more closed right side, and there's a small degree of vision on the left side. :-D

This morning we had a 2 hour delay of school because we were supposed to get some snow (all we got was rain), so I had a bit of extra time to observe the boys. I was a little concerned about TK. He just seemed a little off to me. It's hard for me to explain what I mean, but I felt like he had a slightly different expression on his face, like he was a little worried or something. I'm sure that some of you will understand this "reading" a cat's expression, it's just a feeling I got from looking at him. I mean, he ate, he drank, peed, pooped, but he just seemed a little not quite right. I was even considering giving him some sub-q fluids tonight if he didn't seem to perk up. So, remembering that Dr. K told me that I could discontinue the clavamox if I felt that the boys weren't right I didn't give it to them this morning. The only reason they were even on the clavamox was because she didn't have any doxycycline Monday and had to wait to get some. She knew that they had to be on an antibiotic though because of how sick TK was, so she started them on the clavamox until she got the doxycycline.

Let me tell you, this has made a BIG difference in TK! This evening he has snarfed down every bit of canned food put in front of him! He's back to happy go lucky waddle tummy TK! Even Radar's appetite has increased with stopping the clavamox.

I know we've probably got a long road ahead of us in figuring out what's causing these boys to crash with diarrhea whenever they get a bug, but hopefully some of these tests will have some news for us and give us some direction to go with treting them.

And as for Dr. K.....I'll be calling my old vet clinic this week to get copies of ALL of my furry ones' charts to take over to Dr. K's clinic! I really appreciate everything she has done so far for my boys, and plan on continuing with her with all of my beloved pets.

For those of you wanting to see new pictures of the boys, please visit my flickr account listed in my signature. I just tonight took several new ones and have uploaded them already. You can see how TK was shaved on his neck for the blood draws, and one scab he's got from a needle puncture. His right front leg has a shaved area from the IV he had while in hospital, but it doesn't show in the photos. And just look at that bright blue eye of Radar's! It seems to be opening up a bit wider now too. Hopefully he sees just how beautiful he and his brother are to me!

I'm thrilled you finally found a vet you like too! Makes such a difference. You have done wonders with these little boys. They are sooooo very lucky to have you!

Keep us posted please! Hugs to you and smoochies to the boys!

I don't think I'd seen pictures of them before; they are both so handsome!

It is wonderful to hear how well they are doing. I'm sure under your great care they will continue to improve.
