Morning all, yesterday we completed Titans first BG curve at home. The results were not good but we were anticipating high numbers. We were really looking for a "curve" but I don't think one really showed up. A little background, Titan was Dx on June 27 and was started on 2 units 2x a day of Lantus . At two weeks we did a BG curve at the vet office and it was a flat curve of around 450. With Vet concurance we raised Titan to 3 then 4 units 2x a day over a two week period. Testing only with urine strips we saw no improvement. Decided maybe we were bouncing or having Symogyi effect so we elected to slowly back him down to 1 unit 2x a day and start over. On the way down his numbers really never changed much staying in the high 300's to mid 500's. After 10 days at 1 unit twice a day it was tyme for a curve. Our plan is to go slow and raise his insulin by small amounts. Our Vet said that she won't consider insulin resistance till he is at his body weight (13 lbs) of units 2x a day! That's 26 units OMG. Question: has anyone else experienced a similar issue and how did you resolve it? Take a peek at his spreadsheet and let us know your thoughts. He is still perky, eating, drinking lots and not minding his shots and ear pokes too much. Peace to all, Titans dad :)

My opinion is that you need to raise his dose carefully in small increments of no more than 0.5 u at a time. You'll get the best, most specific advice from the very experienced folks over on the Lantus forum. There are two sets of dosing guidelines described over there in the yellow info stickies, TR and SLGS. I suggest you do some research, ask for advice there and get ready to try something different to get your boy on track. :)

Good to hear he is still perky and not minding shots and pots, at least :cat:. The eating and drinking will star to decrease as you find a better dose. Take a look at the stickies Kris suggested over on Lantus :)
