So Tip came home from the vet about an hour ago, had a bG of 450, I figure part of it was stress. But an hour later, I checked before food(for once she wasn't much of a wiggle butt!) and she tested as just "HI". Thinking this was wrong, I got up to get a new test strip, and her becoming too impatient to test, I let her get some food. I tested her again, and she came in at 484. Could this still be stress from the vet?

It should also be noted that she did get in to some of the dry food, I've yet to successfully switch her sister to canned. I figure this drove her up too. The vet took her back up to 1.5U(Humulin N, no switch) and told me to watch her carefully, and to knock it back down again if she goes low. Also didn't exactly trust my numbers, so thursday next week we'll be comparing numbers as the vet really didn't feel she had enough information to trust my meter(Relion Ultima). She uses an Alpha Trak(sp?) meter.

Anyways, I'm going to compile my questions here:
Could her number still be stress from the vet? When should I see those numbers go down?
Also, should I be concerned about her number? I doubt she'd let me test for ketones to make sure those aren't a problem.

Thanks tons. :)

EDIT: Because of the numbers, and how she's only been on .75U, I went ahead and did give her the 1.5U, I'll be testing at around +2, +3, and +4 to watch, as that's about when she crashed on saturday and went down to 59.

Alright, thanks. Yeah, I knew she'd go elevated(in fact, on the way to the vet, I told my grandpa that since she got in to the dry food, that'd drive her up, and the stress will probably put her towards the 400's, so called that one). But should she be more towards normal her morning shot? Or should I still expect it to be a bit elevated?

If she is anything like my Sneakers the dry will elevate her for a couple of days- not to HI, but not around her normal numbers. (went directly to HI when she got into the dry and stayed in the 400-500+ range for a week until I figured it out :o )

It depends on how carb-conscious Tip is normally.

does she respond well to the insulin you are using??
very few cats do well with this as it is a very harsh insulin. drives BG down hard and then they fly back up again.
lantus. levemir and PZI are better choices and much gentler insulin. sorry if this has been suggested before, I have not followed your posts.
so it could be
still stress
dry food takes a few days to get out of system
or wrong insulin
infection
teeth bad

just a few things that pop into this feeble brain

She does dip down pretty low, but so long as I set out a snack before her nadir(still working on when that is), I imagine that that'd help. I'm thinking that at the time it was a mixture of stress and the dry food though this time. But during the nighttime tests I've done, she doesn't go low, though I believe at one point, at the 102 she recently had, made her shoot up only because her body isn't used to that? I don't know. But I've been working with my vet to see if this is right, we're even back to once a week tests, blah, mostly only because she wants to make sure my meter works. I'm wondering if part of why her numbers have been so wonky is a mix of the UTI she had a while ago and if she has another infection. Not sure, can't figure out which of the cats have been having stomach issues. Thank you though, and sorry I couldn't get back for a good while, next week is finals week, so professors have been driving me nuts with homework.
