Timing the feedings

While Levon was getting insulin, I timed it with his meals, so the meals were very close to 12 hours apart. I've stopped the insulin, and I'm not sure how important it is to keep the meals on such a strict schedule. Could they be an hour early or late? More?

I already muddled through this one, but how do you all deal with changing from Standard to Daylight Savings time? Since I had no insulin to scare me, Levon just got his meals 1/2 earlier (later?) for two feedings. How do the rest of you manage this?

I am curious why did you stop the insulin for Levon? Regarding meals, it really doesn't matter when you decide to feed when you are off the insulin. We consider kitties in remission after a certain process and to have certain numbers i.e. 40-120 at pre-shot time. I don't see that Levon is in remission yet.

For a diabetic cat in or out of remission it is better to give smaller meals more frequently instead of just giving two meals a day, that puts less pressure on the pancreas. Free feeding is good if the kitty isn't a scarfer but when on insulin food needs to be removed 2 hours prior to shot time to ensure your pre shot test isn't influenced by food and you know it's safe to shoot.
