Timing of shots

Georgie had another low 49 tonight- approx 4 hours after his evening shot. I gave him some high carb food and will monitor closely. I am noticing a trend in his chart. His evening numbers are much lower than his morning and daytime numbers. Maybe I need to adjust the timing of his shots. Maybe I am giving his evening shot too early. Thoughts?

With Lantus you want the shots as close as possible to 12 hours apart. So if his a.m. shot is at 7 a.m. then his p.m shot would be at 7p.m. If he's having those kinda lows in the evening then your high a.m. numbers are coming from his body trying to save itself from hypo.

What have you been shooting? An early shot works as a dose increase and a late shot acts like a dose decrease.

I guess I have been doing it all wrong. I have been shooting him with meals. So around 8am and then around 6pm. I will shoot closer to 12 hours apart and hopefully things will start to clear up.

I feel like an idiot. No wonder his numbers are so wonky. So should I try to shoot at 6 tomorrow morning because I shot at 6 this evening? Then just start doing 6am and 6pm everyday? Would this explain most of the bouncing? I am wondering what his levels were like the first two weeks when the vet told me to give him 2 units and I wasn't testing for the first two weeks.

Well that explains a lot!! Yeah you want the shots on a 12/12 schedule. Lantus loves consistency. Same dose given at the same time. Most of us feed with the shots. Ideally you want to Test, Feed and Shoot all within about 15 minutes. The way I feed since I feed. 4 times a day. I feed heavy at 7a.m. a light lunch at +6 or 1p.m. then heavy again at pmps or 7p.m. then a light snack right before I head to bed somewhere between 10 p.m. to midnight.

Most days I get home from work around 7:15 so timing would probably be perfect. Oh goodness I feel so silly.
