Timing food vs. insulin

Hi all,
I was told to feed Squishy 20-30 minutes before her shot, that she had to have food in her tummy before giving her insulin. But on the "NEW TO THE GROUP: THE PROZINC BASICS. PLEASE START HERE" page it says: "Do not feed your cat within the two-hour window right before the scheduled dose time;..."

Am I understanding correctly that for a 7:00 insulin shot, I should NOT feed Squishy from 5-7??

Thanks.

With fast acting insulins, such as Novolin or Vetsulin, you need to feed well in advance of giving insulin. With Prozinc and glargine, you can test, feed, and shoot all within minutes. For any insulin, you want to withhold food in the 2 hours prior to giving a shot since you want to make sure the pre-shot test is not influenced by food raising the numbers.

You are correct. If your shot time is at 7:00, pick up any food by 5:00. The exception is that if you test and get a low number that warrants intervening, give Squishy something to bring up his numbers.

I'm sorry, I'm sure I'm missing something.
You say "With Prozinc and glargine, you can test, feed, and shoot all within minutes. For any insulin, you want to withhold food in the 2 hours prior to giving a shot "

I'm using Prozinc insulin. I'm unclear on how with Prozinc insulin one can "test, feed, and shoot within minutes", but "for any insulin...withhold food in the 2 hours prior to giving a shot".

This seems to contradict? Again, I'm sure I'm missing something.

Thanks,
Renee

OK, I think I've figured it out: You mean to withhold food for 2 hrs prior to the shot. Then test (on her empty stomach), then feed, then wait about 20 minutes then administer the insulin.
Is that correct?
