timed feeder

Hi,
I just purchased a timed feeder for Drevon .... he has always free fed and I will probably keep the freeze dried out when I am gone as he is a senior and I have another senior with CRF who needs to eat often ...
I am wondering if this will help get him more regulated with his sugar.
He is doing well and feeling well I am just thinking it may help to get us over the hump when he eats the majority of his food. ??
Has anyone tried the pet safe 5 as a method to regulate BG?

I use Petsafe 5s for Saoirse. They have helped enormously with her regulation. I set them to feed her a mini meal once every two hours at night. If I'm in danger of passing out during daylight hours I load up a few feeds then, too.
 
Have a very small single meal feeder that I use overnight. After some discussion here over a month ago, I bought a pet safe 6-meal, (I used to have one, unused, and just sold it last year on eBay!). But, I will confess, it os so overwhelmingly large and plastic, it is still sitting in the box. I DO find having the single feeder open to be nice. I just get up once during the night to pick up what she has not eaten.

It will get easier and hopefully he will want to eat on his own soon--I recently got the raised bowls for mine --:bighug:

Hi Mogs,
I have a question about the timing of when the feeder moves to the next slot--
What if the cat is eating and it moves?? Does it stay put until the next time scheduled?

The tray only rotates at the specified times. For example, if you set feed times for 2am and 4am then the tray will rotate to dispense a meal at 2am and it will stay at that position until 4am when it will again rotate to serve the meal in the next compartment.

I would assume that the whirring and the accompanying rotation would prompt the cat to move if it happened to be at the feeder when a feed was due to be served.

I will try that tonight--it was pretty much untouched this morning :(
I am not sure if at his age he will appreciate the technology:confused:
Surprisingly he is not exceptionally food motivated :banghead:
 
I did trial runs with Gracie one right after the other with treats. I would set the timer and let it move the trays. The first time, it scared her but then she saw the treats. The second time, it startled her but she stayed and ate the treats. The third time, she was waiting on it, and by the fourth time, she was trying to figure out how to get it opened.

Because she and Tobey are so flat faced, the compartments were too deep and also made of plastic so I bought dipping bowls exactly like these and they fit perfectly in the compartment and still allow it to easily turn.
 
I'm intrigued by the timed feeders. So you can put the wet food out all day in one, or all night, and it's still ok to eat? Hoping I'm understanding how it works
 
Some feeders come with a little ice pack that goes underneath the food tray.
Some people refrigerate or even freeze the food before they put it in the feeder depending on how long the food is going to be down.
If it's just for the day or overnight it's just fine without doing any of these things.

I may have to do this as well--he will eat it if he really likes it and not afraid but surprisingly for his size not food motivated.
I think he likes the action more than the food LOL
I will look for some dipping bowls. We are old school until I find some:rolleyes:
