Tilda - New Dose working?

A bounce goes in the other direction! You will likely see a bounce by PMPS today. A bounce happens when numbers drop low, drop unusually fast, or drop into a range that your cat has not been spending much time in and as a result, the liver and pancreas release a stored form of glucose along with counterregulatory hormones. The release of these substances cause blood glucose numbers to spike upward. So, bounces cause numbers to rise not to drop.

What you're seeing is likely that Tilda had a marked drop in numbers at or close to nadir. I do suspect her numbers will bounce by PMPS though. She's not used to spending time in the 100s.

Thanks for the explanation! That makes sense. I'll test again to see if she's dropping or going up in an hour.

The last two days have been interesting, she hits 200s and bounces up. On day 6 of this dose. I can't test as much today but will get a +6 ot +7 next.

Okay. After day 7, if you continue to see numbers over 150, you can increase to 1.75. We’re getting there but slowly. She’s setting the pace and we’re just along for the ride. You’re both doing great! Give her some squeezes for me, auntie Ale :cat:

I also wanted to thank you for the encouragement and for mentioning the pace, I'm getting pressure to up the dose to quite a bit but know that we could blow past her ideal dose. Slow and steady makes sense to me and I've been monitoring ketones in urine.

You mean from your vet? Don’t listen to him/her. The only thing I can say is if you wanted to switch to TR you could be increasing every 3 days but you’re still going to do it by 1/4 unit increments. I know I’ve mentioned it and I think you’re more comfortable with SLGS right? And as the name says, you go slow ;)

In my limited experience, I'm seeing NDW now, yes?

Also I just found a food she's tolerating well that has 7% carbs ME. Any advice for making the switch? So far I've only given her 1/8tsp over a few days and now 1tsp to see how her allergies do. With the new dose I don't want to change too many things at once and will go slow (10 days?).

What is NDW, no difference whatsoever? Yes, I agree. We’re looking for the breakthrough dose and it may have to be somewhere in between 2-3 units. We’ll see.

I do 1/3 if the new food for 5-7 days then go up to 2/3 and eventually 100%. You can also do 25% at a time, just always give 5-7 days for each increased. What’s the carb content in her food now again?

Ha! Yes new dose wonkiness? Her current food is ~14%. I'll do that, the 25% over the next few weeks.

Today is day 5 on this dose... should I go up sooner than 7 days? Just looking at the numbers...

Not on SLGS. You have to wait 7 days. on TR you increase after 3 days. Did you read up on the differences between the 2? You could try TR and then go back if it feels scary. I thought I was going to be stressed but I actually quite liked how quickly I could make adjustments with TR. it’s up to you.

Thanks, I'm just being impatient. Today is day 6-- should I do a curve on day 7? Or day 8? and then increase? TR would be great if I was closer to an emergency vet... I could switch after December.

145 last night! But on a pet meter... Does this means I hold the dose? I'm slowly adding the lower carb food as well so this may be where her dose stays for a bit while I make the food change... very slowly!
