Tiko Tiger post DKA update

Hi everyone... sorry it's been a few days since I last let you know about Tiko. Rest assured, he's doing well!

His appetite is strong, the ketone tests I've been able to get have all been solidly negative, and his bgs are coming along. I've had to use R a few times to help with some higher numbers (it hasn't really dropped him, but at least held the bgs from going higher) but things seem to be settling down. Of course, it's a difficult balance to keep enough insulin in him, enough calories and enough hydration and I still don't feel like I can relax. How he is now is just how he was when he went DKA: purring, eating, and getting silly over catnip!

The last couple days he has been exploring the house a bit more. He still ends up under a bed, and today Robbie hid under mine with him! (Robbie is scared of men so when my BF is over he tends to head for cover). There's still some hissing and a bit of growling (from Tiko and a couple of the others) but even that has shortened in duration and intensity.

Oh... and he likes to try to take me down like prey when I leave with his bowl in the morning to fill it up! Almost went through the wall because he launched himself at both my feet this morning-- luckily the claws were sheathed and he was just being silly!

Once again, my thanks to all who have helped this little guy. So many donated to DCIN on his behalf to help pay for part of his ER stay, so many have sent prayers, hope and love... and we cannot forget my vet, who started this all with a phone call and then provided over $2000 in care for free to save him. He's turned into a $5000 kitty... but is worth it all.

((((hugs)))) to all...

That sure sounds like he is definitely on the road to recovery. Bless his heart and thank you for the great update. May he continue to improve.

This is an incredible success story! God - that picture of him when he was bad off just broke me up. I'm SO glad he made it and has a happy home!!!!
